500ms Offset Default? Why? How?

I am new to Waveform 13.5 Pro but have used Tracktion since version 2.

I installed the program and was attempting to overdub a bass part on a demo I had recorded in Tracktion 7. Nothing was in sync....every time I recorded it was behind the beat.

After several attempts I saw the offset setting on the input. Inexplicably, it defaults to -.500ms. I set it to 0 now it records correctly.

Why and how is this default determined upon installation? I ask because I do not want to accidentally set it off again by perhaps resetting my audio device or something like that.

What causes this behavior and how can I prevent it in the future?

Many thanks

I've never heard of it being set to anything other than 0 by default. It's been a long time since I've done a fresh install, though, so maybe someone else can chime in with their experience.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Are you speaking about the "Time adjust" parameter appearing in the Controls Panel section for the input selector of a track?
Never touched that one and find it on 0 ms by me.
It comes to my mind, that somewhere it can be detected the turn around latency for the audio interface in use. Maybe that latency detection function was used and the set that parameter to anything else than 0 ms?
