Ummm, I really want to like it. Subtracks, 256 step patterns and real multi-sample support would be amazing... but this smells like a vehicle for third-party sound packs. Nothing wrong with that but it's not for me. I'd love to see support for an open source sample mapping format like sfz, to make it easier to edit and move around large sample sets.

Yeah... SFZ format would be handy.

I don't care whether it is a vehicle for sound packs... I'd ignore that, just like I have never even looked at what is available for my other elektron boxes.

If I were looking for an Elektron Sampler, I'd pick this over a Digitakt 2... I'm just not looking for a sampler.

Ableton Move gets updates basically every month and has an even better sequencer than Elektron. You can do 64 stereo samples at the same time with a sequencer lane for each one. Sample slicing and much more. And they have full synth editing of Drift. You should check it out: https://www.ableton.com/en/release-notes/move-1-beta/

Ableton Move gets updates basically every month and has an even better sequencer than Elektron. You can do 64 stereo samples at the same time with a sequencer lane for each one. That it gets updated every month is a negative to me. It means it was an incomplete device when released and that users are perpetual beta testers.

It has no audio outs, so it doesn't integrate with my other hardware.

It works with Ableton Live. I don't use Ableton Live.

As a piece of hardware to work into my studio, there is not a single thing about the Move that interests me.

The new Tonwerk does interest me. If it had 3 pairs of inputs so I could use it as an FX box for my other Elektron machines, I'd buy it for sure. As is, I may or may not purchase... kinda how I've been with the Digitakt.

You can use the headphone outs or stream audio in/out over USB. Also, external audio interface support is coming sooner or later (something they added to latest Push beta btw).

Move has nothing to do with Ableton Live at all. Not sure where you got this information. It can export to Ableton Live, but it is definitely NOT Ableton Live. It's completely standalone.

You can use Move as an effects box... 2x high quality Ableton effects per track and 2x master effects.

You don't even know anything about Move to have an actual opinion. And you don't know much about Tonverk either because you haven't even read its manual or are aware about its limitations. If you wanna buy a $1600 box for subpar effects, be my guest.

The fact that Tonverk can't even beat a $499 Move and Elektron being greedy with their product segmentation is utterly embarrassing.

I like my Elektron boxes as they are.

And if I buy Tonwerk, I will do so because of what it is today. I wouldn't then be hoping/wishing for updates. Every time there is an update (assuming I install it), that means time spent focusing on the tool, instead of what I use the tool for. I'm glad Elektron understands this and doesn't update often.

I've tried Move and Push3 but they didn't speak to me the way the Octatrack, AnalogRYTM and Analog4 do. I've also never met an MPC I got along. The Digitakt, Digitone and Syntakt aren't really my thing either.
There are lots of things which are more modern or more feature packed than the things I use but that doesn't matter much to me.

The increased sequencing power of the Tonverk is really compelling, even if it's other features are less compelling.

Syntakt, Live, Push 3, Move plus a plenty of other hardware user here. Yeah, nothing is ever going to work for all of us. It’s seriously great to have choices!

And not knowing the seemingly crazy future I’m going to live in the moment and truly appreciate it.

I purposely have not tried Octatrak because I know I’ll want it. I’m still kicking myself for not trading a couple pedals for a MK1. Seems like a good deal now. Timing is a big thing too.

I am looking forward to the release to see what people think about it then. I’m already done with GAS part of this release. Push 3 does more, so I couldn't justify buying one.

Now the interesting part to me is new platform they mention. I’m curious to know what’s planned next.

There is a lot of competition in the sample based sequencer as mentioned, even the OPXY is in the game, it will just be personal choose…Electron has a great sequencer but this initial release is missing a lot of basic stuff everyone else can do. Personally I was hoping for the rumoured Electron performance mixer…I hope this is still a thing.

Is the mixer actually a thing? I always understood its just heavily requested by Elektron users, not that there was anything more than that.

I’m hoping you’re right. The number of effects on Syntakt has always seemed unfinished. With that said, them saying it’s a new format, means it’s unlikely anything from it would make its way back to older products.

I could easily see them adding some new effects just for the older boxes, but I don’t think it’ll come from Toneverk.
Should go without saying that I would be very happy to be wrong.

I'd also like to see Recorder machines, sample slicing and time stretching implemented in a way that it can controlled by P-locks.

I imagine things will change with firmware updates. I haven't done the early adopter thing with Elektron since the A4mk1. I mean their stuff is usually solid at launch but it may turn out to be a totally different machine a year from now.

*can’t say it enough. Not a fan of loopop and mostly it’s because of the pre-release recorded videos that are never updated. Features get added even in the release version that are not present in his extensive videos.

I can't wait for that midi controller to be released. I've been looking for something like it cause the Midi Fighter Twister and Faderfox EC4 were not doing it for me.
