How many tracks can I arm? (Waveform Free)

The version comparison doesn't seem to mention anything about it.
https://www.tracktion.com/products/wave ... e-versions
Audio or MIDI? Audio AND MIDI? How many inputs to you actually have? What happens when you try to arm a third track? Does it warn you? Does it simply not arm? Does it arm the 3rd track but remove another armed input from another track? Are you wanting to have the same input armed on multiple tracks?
What are your settings in Settings -> General -> Track Inputs ?

Hi there.
I am using a program called Midinous. https://midinous.com/
So I'm wanting to have 4 tracks receiving midi on channels 1 to 4. Track 1 midi channel 1 to Track 4 midi channel 4
So 4 tracks all need arming at the same time so Tracktion can record the midi notes being sent by Midinous.
In settings both inputs were set to Follow Selection. I unticked and tried again in the project.
I kind of know what's wrong I think. I can have as many midi inputs as I want as long as each one is set to a different midi input. I think it may be to the way midi signals are received in Tracktion. (I have had it working in Live 11.)
Cheers

I'm not sure I understand that.Dave Wiz wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 6:38 pm I can have as many midi inputs as I want as long as each one is set to a different midi input.
I'm not 100% sure but I think you might need to set up multiple virtual MIDI inputs. The standard in Waveform is to have a MIDI input and it just records whatever is sent from the device. I think. I don't know what it does when it receives MIDI data on multiple channels from one device. But you can create a virtual input that restricts which channel it receives. That might be the way to go. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.Dave Wiz wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 6:38 pm I think it may be to the way midi signals are received in Tracktion.
Settings -> MIDI Devices
I just made a virtual input via the "Create New Virtual MIDI Input" button. For "Selected MIDI inputs" I chose my Alesis Q49. For "Active MIDI channels" I blocked all and then selected one of the channels. Will that work? I don't know. I don't have any way of testing. But you can give it a try and see what happens.

Hi again.
What I meant was.... I can use more than one midi port but not multiples of the same one receiving different channels.
Thank you for your assistance but it seems that it is Tracktion that is having the issue.
I found this conversation between a guy wanting the same thing and the developer.

Like I said, I have other programs that work with it. Live 11 and NI Maschine work excellently with Midinous.
I did try your suggestion for midi devices but no joy.
I'll check back to see if anything else pops up either from yourself or other users but for now I think it's a no go situation.
Thanks again for taking the time to try and solve this issue.

It works for me. I just downloaded and installed the demo of Midinous. I created Virtual MIDI Inputs using that device and restricted each virtual input to a different channel. I only created three for testing. I used them as inputs for three different tracks and recorded the MIDI.
It's a bit of a pain to set up, but once set up it works fine.
Just a FYI:
Settings -> General -> Track Inputs -> Allow inputs to appear on multiple tracks
Waveform does allow you to use the same input on multiple tracks, but it should be noted that it doesn't do what you happen to want it to do in this instance. A MIDI input has universal settings, so each track would have the same channel settings - which is why you need to create a virtual input. Also, a MIDI clip can only have data for a single channel, as far as I know. It's best not to think of a MIDI clip as traditional MIDI data.
