Also, the GUI is really nice. I wish more guys who create great synths and effects would remember that UX and UI can make or break a customer experience.
If you like this, you should also check out GR-8. It complements Invader really well, having a more "modern" sound with all the strengths you've mentioned.

That may be true on your side of the fence but I've been using nothing but beta builds of Windows since before Windows 8 was released, so maybe 13 years or so now, and everything always just works like it always did. I have 32 bit plugins I bought 20 years ago that still load and play just fine. Vista was the last time Microsoft tried to break backwards-compatibility and they learned their lesson pretty quick-smart on that. Honestly, I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone puts up with all the krap Apple piles onto its users.
I've thought about it and the only way to safe proof your old projects is to run Bigwig with no third-party plugins on Linux and to never upgrade or put that machine on the Internet. Maybe you can upgrade your Bitwig, but I'd advise against it.

Windows has it's own set of compatibility issues that I do not miss one bit. Maybe you have been lucky with your music software, but I have not with other software, having supported that crap. $50k medical device that can only run on XP? Yup. Major pain.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

That's just not true at all. It's 2024, Windows has no compatibility issues with anything. At all. Everything just works. I can open the very first projects I ever created on a computer, 22 or 23 years ago, in my 2023 Windows 11 laptop and everything loads and plays just fine. In fact I did exactly that just a few weeks ago - I loaded a song we wrote in 2001 for our first album, that we probably haven't performed for 20 years, and exported everything from Orion so I could build it again in Studio One. It was easy. It found all the instruments and samples and loaded the project with zero errors. I still have the first audio interface I ever bought, again in 2001, and it still works with my new laptop, as would every other interface I've owned since.

This plugin is a no brainer, just buy it. What will five euros buy you today? A cup of coffee that you drink and it’s gone? It has a great gui and sound, the presets are decent, and it runs and activates in Linux if you want.

Absolute gem of a synth. Props to the developer.

Post

Agreed, this is a nice synth. I'd like to have more by this dev and more presets for Invader.

Post

So make some more presets for it. One of the best things about Invader is how easy it is to use so I don't understand at all why you'd be relying on factory presets for it.

I always end up making music instead of sound design when i start fiddling around. So i never really sit down and just design sounds from scratch. Very different activities. YMMV

I'd rather spend my time making patches for something like Invader than trawling through other people's presets looking for something. It's different with more complex instruments, like DUNE or Hive or Spire but Invader is so quick and easy.

You're probably right. Preset trawling sucks for sure. There are too many unusable presets around. Even deleting the crap would be a step forward. One day i may try to force me to do my own bank for Invader.

Post

While we're at it. I have an aversion for arp and sequencer presets. What the hell is this stuff for? I wish there was an easy way to get rid of them in every synth.

The e-phonic website is not working for me right now. I hope this is only temporary. Does anyone know if there is a manual? I couldn't find one.

It's back now.

Really? I just checked isitdownrightnow.com and it states: "E-phonic.com is DOWN for everyone."
