YEAH! Blockfish! Love it, especially on unruly bass guitar.

I culled FreeAlpha in a moment of madness, thinking it was redundant besides some of the other synths i'd picked up... fool.

It's still there on the Linplug site - why not give it another try? :)

I rarely use Compression during the mix. It all happens during the final mastering process with Ozone. Usually I'll try to tame any unruly instruments individually editing them in Audition before mixing down. So, sometimes Compression is involved or EQ. But I'm not very brutal at all to the sounds, mainly because I try to carefully select what sounds I'm using and relative levels before rendering. For the most part it works, as I prefer more dynamics in my tracks (being long form ambient pieces) and less hard compression.
Too much compression hurts my ears and I don't like a lot of commercial tracks because of this. I feel that more dynamics should really be introduced than less. But then, it suits my style of music as I rarely go for hard beats...

Funny, I did exactly the same this morning ! But I don't regret it yet as I have plenty of other similar sounding units.

I bought the Alpha. It's one of those plugins that doesn't excite me at all, but it is surprisingly versatile, and tends to be a reliable friend when I just need a sound that will sit well in a mix.

the last few updates have really improved it too.

Reverb - I use Convo Boy ( it used to be free ) Room Reverb is nice

Delay - Analogic Delay

Pads - Artphase is so very nice

Weird - Effem

Compressor? C3 Multi Band

I've had no problem with Synth Edit and I'm glad it exsists.

oh i've still got the install, jeez, got a cd packed full of downloaded plugs... :)

i was only culling the stuff that was actually installed.

Agree with Valley though, not exciting but a solid (and very useable) synth.

I see....Bionic Delay is Analogic Delay in stereo. Note to self, always check the site. Their Tape Delay and Echomania are nice too.

Delay: I like Steinberg Karlette. Is that so wrong?
Dynamics: Endorphin, Dominion, Scalar.
Reverb: Empire, Freeverb.
BaXXpander, X-Cita, Rednef Twin, WideBoy (I use the paid-for version, but the free one's pretty good).
dmiHammer, Drumatic.
The Kjaerhus ones.

On the strenght of that post, I redid a mix last night where I removed all compressor (had one on every track + one on master track  ). It was a lot more work and took a lot longer to get level ok than simply slaming a compressor on, but the end result was way better (to my ears anyway), more fluid and more dynamic and certainly worth the time expense.
Thanks for that.
