Hello,
I live in the United Kingdom.
I am new to this forum and new to Waveform Free 13. As a hobby I create AI music using Suno. I am a former professional musician - drummer but not since the mid 1970s. In my retirement I have taken up AI music production and would like to take the production of music a stage further by using a DAW. The DAW I have chosen is Waveform Free 13. I am a complete beginner in using DAWs in general and have no previous experience. I have found Waveform's user manual online. I have also accessed the Waveform training videos but as I have no knowledge of using DAWs in general I found them difficult to follow. I would be grateful if anyone could suggest any other tutorials or online courses that would help me get started with Waveform Free 13 and progress my music production.
Thanks.
Greg

I have been using Waveform since version 1 and am now on version 13 pro, and I guess I know my way around it and its pretty simple at its basic level, as all daws are - just glorified tape recorders really. There are some videos created by waveform themselves, and they are pretty easy to understand, and of course there are online manuals. I just had a quick scout around and found manuals and a video that look easy to follow.StanleyMusicPro wrote: Sun Oct 12, 2025 9:45 am Hello,

There is a sticky post (nearthe top of the list) that lists many training videos, both official and unofficial. Many are for earlier versions but may still be relevant.
You may have some experience of recording studios. A DAW can be considered to be a software version of a recording studio. Perhaps it would be useful to get a pen and paper and write down how you think a piece of software ("a glorified tape recorder", as dellboy said) might be able to emulate whatever happens in a recording studio. If you're not familiar with MIDI, an overview of that will help. The Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIDI) description may suffice. DAWs deal with MIDI and audio.

[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

This article looks like a solid overview of DAWs in general.

And I'd fully endorse the Audio Tech TV guy's Waveform videos.

Greg, welcome!
You might be interested in what I wrote in my recent post in the videos thread (linking there for some reason seems to not work today, so old fashioned copy & paste here):
I watched much too much videos instead of learning by doing, but having done so think that I can help you a little bit. My recommendation, after having seen (most likely) all tutorial videos about Tracktion Waveform which I could find on YouTube in English, German and Spanish language, is to start with this series:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... m3KbJWfxwA
Afterwards dive into more details by this series:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... z_Wl8DfEZm
Beyond this you mainly will find the same things explained again and again in different presentation styles - but often not as concise and to the point.
The age of the videos is not a problem. Even the nice tutorials on Tracktion (i.e. on Tracktion 3), this is how Waveform was called many years ago, do still serve well. Of course, some (minor) things have changed, but it is really not difficult to relate the old explanations to the (slightly) refreshed design of the current app. This is because of the fundamental ideas leading to the in Waveform offered DAW workflow haven't changed over the years. The aspired workflow was well thought out in the past, and is today mostly still followed like this. So, if having digested the two video series which I recommended, then maybe dig also in the old videos, if searching for some very specific question which is only presented in the old but not in the new videos.
But as I said, learning by doing is also a nice option at some point.
Enjoy your journey!
