It would be really cool if bitwig devices mappings would have setting for roto-control that "this mapping can be stepped" and you could chage amount of steps. I know you can do those settings in roto app but there are already huge amount of Bitwig remote mappings made and shared here in kvr forum and to change those mappings in bitwig remote editor would be huge time saving.

I just ordered mine and waiting now, really looking forward to it. But reading this makes thinking a bit. The below mentioned things are quite something I'm hoping for too.

We should send a feature request to Bitwig then.

the glitchy workaround I described above is now also locked out.

kinda inexplicable that this wasn't a core feature, roto is so obviously the perfect solution for a macro controller for BW live recording/performance.
But when switching to midi mode, one could learn project level controls and save as Roto Control mapping?

Support told me this feature is already implemented:
Remote Controls:
If there is a stepped parameter on a Remote Controls page, the steps will be reflected on Roto as well, automatically.

I had a reply to my ticket, confirming that Project/Group remotes are not accessible - but, crucially, "at the moment" - which I'll take as an indicator that it's being worked on.

In fact, after some more back-and-forth, it is possible to access the group/project remotes from the controller in plugin mode - but getting them to show up involves trial and error. If, in Bitwig, you switch the selection from a plugin to one of the remotes, it sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. It seems to depend on whether the plugin you switch from has a control that's represented in the remote - but not always. And the lock function doesn't work when you get there.

So it seems like I'm exploiting something a bit buggy in the script. But I can work with this until it gets properly implemented. My highest recommendation stands.

Bitwig is working on a solution too, I've been told.

Hi,
could anyone please tell me the advantages and disadvantages of using BW's Remote Controls vs. directly learning the parameters by Roto-Control.
At the moment I learn the parameters directly by Roto-Control w/o Remote Control Pages, bc otherwise I'm not able to use Roto's buttons, which is somehow ridiculous. Watched some videos about using more than 8 parameters at a time with Remote Control Pages, but did not get anywhere.
I suppose there are some advantages with Remote Control Pages (e.g. panel sharing..), but "no buttons" is a show stopper for me. Grateful for any insights.
Thanks in advance & regards

Use both. Like mentioned before there are huge amount of reconfigured remotemappings to download for free. They are really useful for synths you rarely use. Then you just map to roto-control few of your most used controls, like filter etc.

If you use some plugins a lot I would then map those myself to roto-control so that they are in a logical order for me to use.

Well, I think I found a big advantage of using BW's Remote Controls vs. directly learning the parameters by Roto-Control >>> dynamically updated parameter display. When directly learned, the display always shows the parameter name at time of learning while with Remotes it gets dynamically updated which is great.

So does anybody use Roto-Ctrl with BW's Remote Controls and has managed to use buttons too? (which means more than 8 parameters at a time?).
Can you please share the trick(s)? Very appreciated!

Thanks & regards

Does it support Linux?

I'm using the Roto with Bitwig on Ubuntu without problems but the app only supports Windows/Mac. I only use it for software updates and I run it on a Windows partition that I keep for situations like these. I don't know whether there are alternative methods on Linux.

Thanks for the info.

The no Linux support is a deal-breaker for me, unfortunately.

But there seems to be a Linux Roto setup app, setup guide etc. on their download page:

I'm not a linux user though. Haven't tried it ..

Oh, yes, true. Sorry, I misremembered. I actually tried it (an earlier version, just the day I got the Roto) but ran into installation problems and was too impatient to investigate. I'll try it again whenever there is a new firmware update. Thank you for the correction, rvlt!

No luck here.. I'd also like to be able to use the RC page keys to flip between BW remote control pages

I sent in a feature request about device selection, because now when you click on a plugin GUI, the device itself doesn't get selected, which means the RC doesn't get loaded. It's always an extra click.
