It's more of a macrosynth than microsynth.SamDi wrote: Thu Oct 16, 2025 11:36 amDepends: I would say it's more about browsing and layering the presets or make sounds from the sound sources and adapt what is there. You can import own samples, but not as multi-sample and you can not import own wavetables. It's more good for musicians, who wanna get a sound of a certain quality quickly and then beeing able to adapt it to their needs.wintoid wrote: Thu Oct 16, 2025 10:53 am I know literally nothing about Omnisphere. Can it be a good choice for someone who wants to make their own sounds, or is it really all about the presets?
Of course you can make own sounds from scratch, but it's not as much fun as in Serum, Pigments, Phase Plant IMHO because the GUI is pretty cluttered and convoluted and nevertheless there are many limitations or features missing I would wanna count on (e.g. only one polyphonic LFO, no remapping of modulators, no side-chaining of modulations, etc.)

I would not buy from third party seller. I bought mine that way and was not eligible for the upgrade price. Spectrasonics basically wanted me to pay full price again and it's not like the discount I got from the retailer was deep discount.

That doesn't sound right at all. Wasn't my experience or anyone else's I've heard of.osiris wrote: Thu Oct 16, 2025 12:50 pm I would not buy from third party seller. Buying 2nd hand will produce that outcome though.

So if you got a license transfer and have an NFR version you are not eligible for upgrading?noiseboyuk wrote: Thu Oct 16, 2025 1:06 pm That doesn't sound right at all. Wasn't my experience or anyone else's I've heard of.

I bought Omnisphere v1 as a transfer, became NFR, ok got it. Later I upgraded it to V2 no problem.
Can't see why it won't be the same with v3

I bought mine from juno.co.uk and it was Spectrasonics that told me I was not eligible for the upgrade price, so I'm just telling you my experience.
I did get the update to 1.5, but my v1 came on disc and only the update is available for download.
And this is what confuses me because if you go to the list of authorized retailers juno.co is on there (even though they don't sell VSTs anymore)

IMO Omnisphere is great for cinematic, audio for video, background music, ambient, and those styles. Or for lush layered sounds that support pop productions. But not really a optimal sound design or wub-wub machine. Not that you can't get it to do those kinds of things, but it wouldn't be something you'd go for over Serum or Phaseplant. It does great for virtual analog type sounds, but IMO there are way better options on the market that don't contain all the bloat.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the one big synth to rule them all paradigm (Omnisphere, Falcon, etc.). I'd rather run dedicated devices for wavetable, virtual analog, sample, granular, etc. and then drive them from the same MIDI clip and group the output if I want layered type sounds - that workflow is a better fit for how I operate, YMMV. I own everything from Spectrasonics and none of it made it into my last computer build.
That said, for the people who like Omnisphere, this will certainly be a welcome update and make a lot of the diehard users happy. Happy to see them get some much needed modernization, I know it's been a long wait!!!

one mans bloat...BBFG# wrote: Thu Oct 16, 2025 12:36 pm All I can think about with this is how much more bloat is being incorporated into it.
At last it doesn't take up any more drive space- same footprint.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!
