Are you still able to open instances of previous Pianoteq versions in your DAW? (if so, please state which DAW and format VST or VST3, etc.)

At least they have from Version 4 in every upgrade I've done from them. Maybe not noticeable in all versions though. I have the Full Studio Pro Bundle, so the upgrade has always included the current models and any new model introduced within the year of that. As I said, at least that's how it's worked for me in version 5, 6, 7 & 8.jamcat wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 5:25 pmThat’s not how it works. Version updates do not restart the clock. Perhaps upgrading from (for example) Stage to Pro might (I don’t know, I started with Studio), but upgrading from 8 to 9 does not, as I’ve had to buy the instruments even within a year of updating.BBFG# wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 2:06 pm I try to get it as close to the end of that offer as I can because they give you any model they may add in a year from that date.
I have Studio as well, and when I upgraded to Version 8, it was past my year of free instrument packs. My upgrade purchase did NOT get me the classical guitar pack which had been released at the same time as version 8.
I even contacted tech support about it, and they told me I would have to purchase it separately (I never did.)
Are you saying you always got all previously released packs you didn't own every time you upgrade for $29, including the classical guitar pack? Did Modartt screw me?
I have had Pianoteq since studio 5 Pro all instrument bundle. I also received all the instruments whenever I upgraded, except when they released version 8, they did not include Classical Guitar Pack for me either and said I would have to buy that separately. I didn't upgrade, as I expect an upgrade/update path for all instrument bundle owners as well and most likely won't buy individual instruments. The pricing for bundle owners should be looked into by Mordatt.

No, he's wrong. Since V8, The "one year" rule ONLY applies from when you purchased or upgraded to Studio. It does not apply to major version upgrades thereafter. You will always have to purchase new packs after that year.jamcat wrote: Thu Oct 16, 2025 2:29 am Are you saying you always got all previously released packs you didn't own every time you upgrade for $29, including the classical guitar pack? Studio is not a special product. It's just a Pro bundle with a 20% discount on future pack released after one year.
Major version upgrades buy you the new version of Pianoteq and nothing else. That's why it's only $29.
This time around it doesn't matter. They didn't release any new packs. They only added to existing ones. If you had all packs on 8 and upgrade to 9, you have everything.

I have been able to determine that the issue was caused by the new beta of FL Studio. Image-Line have been implementing more automatic migration support methods, to help users switch from VST to VST3.
One of those methods is currently a bit too aggressive towards Pianoteq, migrating not only VST to VST3, but also all previous major releases of Pianoteq to the most recently installed version - hence the reason why v6/v7/v8 were all initiating as Pianoteq 9.
I will report the issue to Image-Line to let them know.

I have Pianoteq 8 Pro and (by now) all the instruments packs (bought separately over time).
The upgrade to Pianoteq 9 Studio would cost 129€ while the normal 8->9 upgrade costs 29€.
Is there any advantage of buying one over the other that would justify another 100€?

I dont think you need to upgrade to 9 Studio. All packs you own will continue to work in 9.
The only difference might be that if there is a new pack released less than year from your upgrade you might get it for free (but I would ask Modartt support for confirmation that this is the case before paying for the upgrade). However, 100 euros difference means there should be 2 packs released in a year to just break it even. Highly unlikely IMO.

Essentially, the Studio Bundle is just the Pro edition plus all currently available instrument packs.NothanUmber wrote: Thu Oct 16, 2025 10:15 pm I have Pianoteq 8 Pro and (by now) all the instruments packs (bought separately over time).

Other than the initial one calendar year's grace period for free upgrades after the initial point of sale/upgrade, I don't believe there are any other benefits to Studio Bundle. Apart from any discount bulk buy versus individual purchase of any instrument packs (not currently owned by a customer).
I previously queried with Modartt, whether there any future benefits/discounts for Studio Bundle owners beyond the first year grace period (after the initial purchase/upgrade). At the time Modartt said there were no ongoing benefits once all instrument packs were owned, but they might consider changing that policy at some point.
From the end user perspective, if you own Studio Bundle, the only place it will state that is within the "Registered Products" section of your account user area on Modartt's website. The Pianoteq plugin itself will still identify as "Pianoteq Pro" (irrespective of whatever major version you are using, v5/v6/v7/v8/v9, etc.) The only difference (for most users), is they would have access to all available instrument packs (which you apparently already do anyway).
So, with that in mind, you be the Judge.

Thanks for the feedback! Went the 29€ path then
Interestingly, even when owning Pianoteq 9 now the Pro 9=>Studio 9 upgrade would still cost me 129€. Might be a configuration mistake in their shop? At least I don't completely understand the rationale here...

Studio 9 is just Pro but with all the instrument packs included - so if you had Pro (and only the four additional instruments you picked during that purchase) the 129 euros would actually be a pretty good deal for an additional 20 instruments/models

I guess the price is taking into consideration what you already have and would be higher for somebody with just 4 instrument packs.

FWIW, I have Pro with 10 packs and it would be 239 to upgrade to studio for me (would be around 17 eur/pack - problem is I already have all the packs I _really_ want)

Hello, I’m finding the difference upgrade prices a little confusing.
I own 8 Pro, if I buy the $29 update, will my license change from Pro to standard, or will it be 9 Pro?
