Exactly, EPs are incredible. But don't like the C7.

IvyBirds wrote: Fri Oct 17, 2025 5:08 am You don't have to use MIDI CCs if you don't want. In Omnisphere you can right click on any parameter and you will get this popup menu

Screenshot_20251017-004629.jpg

Using this menu you can then select how you want to control that parameter. You can select MIDI Learn CC and then all you have to do is move the control on your controller and it's programmed. It has an inverted option as well which will make 0 all the way up and 127 all the way down

Outside of MIDI CCs you can select Note Learn and use notes instead

Outside of that you can select Host Automation and that parameter will be visible to your host. Each parameter you assign will get assigned a "Host Automation ID Number" in order.

This will work with the global controls. You can assign them to whatever Host Automation number you want you don't have to use CCs. It would take literally 30 seconds to setup

You can then save that as a template which will save with the patch. You can also save the file separately.

A shortcut is to create "Init Patches" with your controller and automation lanes programmed how you want. Then just load that Init Patch. That will allow you the ability to create multiple setups and easily recall them

If you select the "show full MIDI learn report" you will get a window that looks like this

Screenshot_20251017-010143.jpg

That will show you everything used in MIDI learn and host automation
Yeah I went into the 2.8 manual online and poked around. I think it's set up very much like Falcon when it comes to host automation, which IMO is the decent middle ground, in that like you mention it's patch specific, i.e. it's not a thing like Bitwig where it assigns the same 16-64 or more controls in the order you determine,
If you just want the same assignments to load every time and be global that's easy. All you need to do is set them up however you want and then save that as the "default multi". Moving forward every time you launch Omnisphere that setup will then just load automatically with no thought or effort on your part
I will die on the hill that Plasmonic and Pigments etc. present the most obvious choices for this though, host automation controllers like Kontrol mk3 series simply don't need any mapping for any patch, since the macros are already mapped in the patch and presented first in the automation list
If mapping controls is important to you that is a terrible hill to die on because I don't want hundreds of parameters premapped. I want to create my own setup exactly how I want

It always blows my mind when people go on about how important physical controls are for them, then can't be bothered to actually take a few minutes to set up a controller exactly how they want and exactly the way it will work best for them.

If you are using a simple analog subtractive synth plugin with a few dozen controls sure why not predefine everything, but with a synth like Omnisphere or Falcon with hundreds if not thousands of possible automation targets that is a royal pain to sort through all of that. Case in point
My hope is that in a few years all DAWs allow the same thing as Bitwig where any controller in their list is capable of remapping all parameters globally for any patch pulled up in that plugin, since then macros become the way to save the order of the most used parameters for that patch, outside of any work needed by the hardware or plugin.
With Omnisphere and Bitwig you make whatever control you want in Omnisphere visible to automation using the right click menu

That control will be assigned to the #1 slot and be given Automation ID#1. Select another thing and do the same it goes into the #2 slot and gets ID#2 and so. You can do this up to 512 times and end up with a list in the order you want

Say you want Filter Cutoff as 1, resonance as 2, ADSR for the Amp Envelope as 3-6

In Bitwig you would then click the small “Show/Hide Automation” drop-down button, located in the lower right corner of the audio track. Then Click the small down arrow in the automation section to reveal the parameters list. Then in that menu you would select your plugin in this case Omnisphere and you will see a break down of all of the Automation IDs that the plugin has made visible. You will then find Filter Cutoff listed first, followed by Resonance, followed by Amp envelope Attack, followed by Amp Envelope Decay etc

That is super easy and just makes sense the alternative would be to sort through hundreds if not thousands of parameters just to find what you want which is a real pain

And again if all of that is saved as your default it will be that way everytime you launch Omnisphere, you don't have to do anything

As the question came up already: I purchased "Omnisphere 2 + free update" today from BestService. A little later I received an email explaining the steps to get the 3.0 for free. I suppose there's an agreement between Spectrasonics and local resellers so they don't sit on piles of boxes with v2.8.

Is it the case that any Omni 2 code registered after the 21st becomes Omni 3, or is it more complicated than that?

As I received the email in German, let me translate to "Register the number and install from USB if you will, but send an email to xxx@spectrasonics.net with subject xxx and your serial number, and you will instantly receive an O3 license in your account"

The date seems to be "purchased after 15. October".

I do trust Bestservice, so I suppose it's an official agreement, and probably not just with them but other resellers in the EU too

Thanks! I have seen this offered elsewhere too, so a very good deal.

Seems BestService only ship Spectrasonics products to Germany, Swizterland and Austria, sadly for the rest of us.
