Yeah after hearing Eric clarify how the global controls work I'm more excited for that feature now, it seems very useful in its intelligent design. In my dream scenario they would have dynamic panels that more uniquely suit each patch like how their Sonic Extensions work. Maybe this is the first step towards that (it would be a ton of work but a man can dream!). But I also get they are trying to cater to as many controllers as possible and this was a way of streamlining access to the synth. Not really a selling feature for me but it makes business sense I suppose.

There's no state tax with us outside of California.BBFG# wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 3:41 am Out of curiosity, I checked the price for new customers. $500. Just for Omni3. Also checked the online dealer here and saw the physical copy has the state tax added. (Which I suspected it would be.) That's only for certain states but their discount starts to disappear quickly with it. Been trying hard not to laugh, but the chuckling keeps sneaking out.

Guess it's the other way. I know California clamped down on some states requiring them to collect tax for them. As you know, I'm in California. I know you're trying to do something good against the greed machine, but they do find a way to grab more and give less everywhere they can. Which begs the question of which room Eric is reading with this.Uncle E wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 4:13 amThere's no state tax with us outside of California.BBFG# wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 3:41 am Out of curiosity, I checked the price for new customers. $500. Sorry, dumb Logic user here. What do these words even mean?
OK, but seriously. Omnisphere has been my go-to soft synth since the day it was released back in 2008, and when I look at how much mileage I’ve gotten out of it and the number of substantial free upgrades I’ve received for as little as I’ve invested in it over a 17-year period, it’s the best bargain on the market. It’s up there with Logic.
As for the UX, I think it’s great as it is and I’m glad they didn’t break something that isn’t broken AFAIC.

I got Omnisphere 2 eons ago. Along the way it has been updated many times for free with fantastic new featuresjobinho wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 3:36 amPerhaps if you don’t already have lots of good fx, but $199 for an upgrade certainly isn’t a bargain… it’s like upgrading a DAW level pricing. There’s some very nice additions but the core synth engine and UX hasn’t evolved a great deal in v3, outside of performance and a few extras.cryophonik wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 12:12 am I was planning to upgrade anyway, but I agree that the FX rack makes the upgrade cost an absolute bargain.
For the $199 upgrade price I get some features that are important to me, in no particular order
1.)MPE Support
2.)tons of new samples and presets curated by Eric Persing who I have been a fan of since the D50 in 1987
3.)new effects
4.)stand alone plugin that allows 4 effects to be used together and on anything
5.)improvements to the analog engine
6.)new Wavetables and improvements to the Wavetable engine
For a $199 upgrade Omnisphere 3 is an incredible bargain. Over the next 5-10 years until Omnisphere 4 comes out I will spend thousands of hours using it. As a gigging musician I will make money playing it
What's not to love?

yeah I've never understood the UI hate...its clean, functional, large and low density...and especially since their majority demographic customer probable trends older...they don't need or want a videogame interfacecryophonik wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 4:55 amAs for the UX, I think it’s great as it is and I’m glad they didn’t break something that isn’t broken AFAIC.

OK, maybe there’s an ESL thing going on here. I use a DAW called Logic made by Apple. Apple doesn’t charge us for upgrades. Carry on.jobinho wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 5:01 amIt’s a similar price to upgrading a DAWcryophonik wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 5:00 am Irony at its finest![]()

I would be super interested in this... Maybe it will happen during the lifecycle of v3?zvenx wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 10:17 pm Not that I would use it, but disappointing that it still doesn't allow user multisamples.

I wonder if the main controls page was developed as a result of brainstorming a way to make hardware controllers work. There was no useful way to integrate a regular controller with Omnisphere until now. This really is pretty clever how your controls will now ALWAYS affect the sound reliably. You will always know where the resonance and cutoff controls are on your controller, so you can reach for them as quickly as hardware, and keep the GUI open for other tweaks so you don't have to keep switching tabs (I think there's a preference to have the GUI switch automatically when you affect a control).daily patcher wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 4:04 am Yeah after hearing Eric clarify how the global controls work I'm more excited for that feature now, it seems very useful in its intelligent design. I have the Novation Launchkey 88mk3. I can imagine it being genuinely useful to know I can adjust reverb amount and length reliably in hardware, or amp/filter ADSR, or vibrato.
EDIT - the one caveat is that those hardware controls MAY not work on legacy or 3rd party patches, but we await confirmation on that.

BTW. I got my coding-whizz son to do a quick analysis of the patches based on the library info on the website. The answer is - of the 26,421 new patches, there are 13,915 unique names.
That includes the 9,242 remastered legacy patches. So the total number of unique brand new patches is...
4,673.
And honestly, I'm not complaining. Far from it, that's an absolutely insane number of brand new patches from top designers. Imagine what it would cost from someone like The Unfinished - never mind all the brand new features. It's a steal.
I think for anyone that uses patches, it's going to take a while to get used to always starting with one of the 18 new directories (or legacy / third party). It's actually quite a big conceptual leap. I think there's going to be big plusses in patch discovery, but not easily being able to search multiple areas for a particular Type, or factory plus third party, could be minuses. I know there's still a search ALL button, but I think that will now be pretty overwhelming and messy.
