Job done.
Tell me honestly, did you sit each synth side by side and do a detailed comparison of the two?
Does Dune 3 Have all the features of Dune 1? Anyone still hanging on to both?

DUNE 3 is my number one synth for leads and I too am a huge lead guy. I use it for such in every project. D1 simply can't touch it (I still have Dune CM installed on this system) and I can say that as someone who has spent way more than 400 hours with D3. D1 is not a bad synth by any stretch of the imagination but it's simply not as good as D3. If it was that would mean Rich and Marcin wasted many many years of development and that's simply not the case.Touch The Universe wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 5:17 pm for some leads, I'd go to Dune 1, and I'm a huge lead guy, so...
Sadly in the global economy of the day there may not be resources to commit to release a free synth just to please the one or two people who still want D1 especially if it impacts sales of D3. If Synapse were to go under we would all lose, both them, their families, and us as end users.Touch The Universe wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 5:17 pmI realize we live in a world and have bills to pay - but when do THE ONLY THING that matters were sales - what about the simple love of creating a nice synth.
People will just have to find DuneCM or ask on the marketplace if anyone has a D1 license for sale if transfers are allowed.
You still have D1 so just enjoy it for as long as the VST 2 version works in your DAW. But to think it will ever get resurrected based on the desires of a handful of people is an unrealistic expectation in my opinion.

Here is a video going over sound design comparison between the two.
1. Exploring the Split Filters in Dune 1
2. The More Elegant FM implementation in Dune 1
3. Some Subtractive Character cannot be replicated
Patches in the video are here.

And? What did you find? Your a big boy - please use your words to describe and compare the behavior you noticed - because its nice and day. Dune 1 has a much more elegant implantation.seafire wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 5:20 pmYepTouch The Universe wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 5:07 pmseafire wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 12:21 pm Do the FM in the MM, make sure you set to audio rate.

Yes - I wonder if VST2 to VST3 is trivial simple thing. At the very least that might add a decade to the life of the synth.Teksonik wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 6:44 pmDUNE 3 is my number one synth for leads and I too am a huge lead guy. I actually don't even have any requests I'd add to the thing - keep it as is - just alive. Though, maybe import samples - like Zampler + All Dune 1 functions -that would be it. The code should exist for that. Combine or make open source both and I can get AI to combine them, or do the VST2 To VST3 thing even.
Just dreaming. I'm also realistic - don't think it's reasonable if only a few people care - best case is when the developer cares.
How hard would it be to get those Split Filters in Dune 3 though... Maybe I'll create a thread there or PM rich - one - last - time on the issue.

You're trying to copy a patch called Flanged Bass, but you neglected to use the flanger.Touch The Universe wrote: Sun Oct 19, 2025 2:09 am Here is a video going over sound design comparison between the two.

I've been begging for Zampler .sfz support in DUNE 3 for years and it's not going to happen even though the code already exists. It doesn't fit Rich's vision for the synth and it's well within his rights to stay true to that vision.Touch The Universe wrote: Sun Oct 19, 2025 2:18 am maybe import samples - like Zampler + All Dune 1 functions -that would be it. Synapse cares they just care about their modern synths and not one that was deprecated years ago. I support that position.
But hey go ahead and contact Rich about it again, can't hurt to try but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Use whatever one... I like Dune ONE!... Used to it, can make most anything with it, low CPU usage, if I wanna different sound well that's what FX are for, send or insert... Tried up to Dune 2.5 at one time not really impressed... Those who vigorously disagree then throw down... Let's 'hear' what kind of fantastic shit composition you are creating with Dune 3...or 4-5-6-7-UP... Please dazzle us... BTW Dune one is well above Dune CM...

Then your definition of "most anything" is really very very narrow.
Why is it up to us to educate you? If you don't own DUNE 3 then you simply don't have the experience to make a comparison between it and the long since abandoned DUNE 1.eLawnMust wrote: Sun Oct 19, 2025 7:44 pmThose who vigorously disagree then throw down... Take it from someone who has spent countless hours with every version of DUNE since it was first released, D3 is a far superior synth to D1 in every way. That's why they're called "upgrades".
I sold D1 on many years ago and have never missed it for one second. It's outdated technology and utterly irrelevant in 2025.
I've made hundreds and hundreds of patches for D3 that D1 simply could not do. Period, end of story. One needs only look at the difference in architecture between the synths to see that fact.
If you're satisfied with D1 for whatever reason then keep using it but just know that you're missing out on a much more powerful and better sounding synth.
