Definitely! Cubase 14 introduced more "major" features than all the last S1 7.x "major feature drops" combined.

To each their own really. I tried Cubase 14 for a couple of weeks and felt overwhelmed by the possibilities. S1, on the other hand, has stayed pretty streamlined over the years and that's what I like about it. It may not have as many "features" as other major DAWs but it caters to all my needs.
Regardless of the company, you should never invest your money on promises. More often than not, you'll be disappointed. Buy something because you like what it is, not because of what it could become.

Agreed! But normally, no one buys software with a fixed idea of future developments. Desires more often arise from learning about new features offered by competitors. And then comes the “I'd like that feature too” moment, and dissatisfaction grows.

And still Cubase can't properly layer multilple instruments.

...and then you switch to a different DAW and realize it's missing some other feature you took for granted in your old DAW. And so the DAW-hopping cycle begins again.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Exactly! Unless you resist...

But at least, it can record external instruments with a working delay compensation

Didn't even know this was a problem in Studio One since I don't have any external instruments. Or, to put it this way, I don't record any external instruments, I do have two electric guitars, and one electric bass, but I really cannot play anyway :)

I didn't know either. I regularly record my Korg Radias and Multi/Poly HW into S1 and never noticed anything.
Since that comment bugged me, I just recorded a clip with my controller that output to the Radias and then inserted Ozone 5 (old, I know, but it's fine for my needs) with the highest latency I could get (155 ms!). I then bounced the part to audio, played them together and ... everything is in sync! Am I testing it wrong?

The problem is not the latency of some plugins but the latency of the audio interface and the hardware that is not compensated correctly if AUX busses are used:

It has already been confirmed by Presonus.

Yeah, I didn't realize how bad S1 was in this regard until I started doing a demo of Cubase 14. Major difference.

As for the complexity - I can see it "lurking" in Cubase 14 but, so far, to do the basics I need a DAW to do, it's no worse than S1.

There's a problem using multiple PipelineXT plugins in a row (ie if you want to chain hardware chains in a different order). Cubase 14 handles it easily and with less latency.
