u-he installers replaced without VST2 versions and no version bump

Hi guys, I recently re-downloaded Hive, MFM2, Satin and Zebra Legacy. I noticed that the installers I obtained recently (which had the exact same filename and version as the versions I grabbed a few months ago) had been changed and no longer include VST2 versions of the plug-ins.
I would have thought that such an important change would warrant at least a version bump as it makes it very confusing when vendors overwrite installers and make critical changes like this.
Can you clarify why this was done without a version bump on all plug-ins?
Cheers
Fotis

I think Urs explained this in various places, if you use the search and limit to u-he forum, I think you'll find lots of posts.
Reason is (my udnerstanding): Steinberg doesn't allow VST2 to be shipped anymore, so companies are legally obliged to not create new plugin versions that still include VST2. See https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-u ... scontinued

I had a feeling that may have been the case, thanks for the response. I still do think it would have been ideal if the version number was incremented to avoid confusion though.Fannon wrote: Tue Oct 21, 2025 3:46 am I think Urs explained this in various places, if you use the search and limit to u-he forum, I think you'll find lots of posts.

All current versions *with* VST2 installer are available in our release archive:
https://u-he.com/downloads/release-archive/
We can provide legacy installers with VST2, but we can not provide VST2 for our current product downloads.

Thanks for clarifying Urs, I fortunately have a copy of the previous installers with VST2 versions which I'll keep in case they're ever needed again.

vst3 is now open source, which would also mean that the vst2 ban enforced by Steinberg is obsolete
see here:

I would welcome it if vst2 would be implemented again in the uhe products

I hate signatures too.

VST2 was phased out for us by terminating our VST2 License Agreement. I can't see how the new license for VST3 (which is very welcome!) reverses the termination of that agreement.ThomasLehmann wrote: Thu Oct 23, 2025 6:58 pm vst3 is now open source, which would also mean that the vst2 ban enforced by Steinberg is obsolete

We went through hoops to release almost all of our products in the most modern form possible, including VST2 support, "one last time". Those installers are in the release archive and will stay there for anyone who still uses VST2. Therefore, VST2 *is* implemented in by far most of our products.

Yes, I know. I'm not usually that attached to old stuff and am all for progress, including CLAP, but I'm working with Reason 12.5 and for various reasons, I'm not upgrading to the new version. Unfortunately, Reason 12.5 has a problem with VST3, and CLAP isn't supported. Since I own almost all UHE plugins, I'd also like to use UHE 2 and soon Zebra 3, but unfortunately, that won't work so smoothly with Reason 12.5. But I understand your point.

Yes, I've even already got the update, but I'm still using Reason 12.5 for two reasons. First, it's the last real offline version, and second, I keep having problems with the new browser (like many others). So, even years from now, I could still install Reason 12.5 offline on a Windows 10 system and open my old songs. With Reason 13, this wouldn't be possible if they shut down their servers at some point for whatever reason. That's also one reason why I love UHE plugins so much. They're totally uncomplicated, and there's no online hassle when it comes to copy protection.Urs wrote: Fri Oct 24, 2025 3:13 pm Ah, the Reason dilemma. But there is an upgrade path to Reason 13 now, no?

My Reason 12 plugin isn’t a real offline version. If I didn’t fire it up for a while, it doesn’t play offline.

I'm using Reason 12.5.3! This is the last version that works with the hardware dongle. This version works completely offline, no matter when or how long I use it, even during or after a fresh installation! No internet connection is necessary at any time.Tj Shredder wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 5:55 am My Reason 12 plugin isn’t a real offline version. I didn’t know there was a dongle version…

Yes, that used to be the case. It was discontinued after version 12.5.3. Now, an internet connection is required for installations and is also required at certain intervals.
