Yah.. you know.. metaphor..etc.
I think (my opinion.. full disclaimer..): people that thought Omnisphere 3 was the bees knees before they found out about the Ai graphics and now they won’t touch it with a ten foot pole are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

I believe that eventually Spectrasonics is going to open up Omnisphere to much more sophisticated sample import and manipulation. This is because this is clearly done under the hood by the core libraries and the satellite products like Keyscape and the Sonic Extensions. Even though current sample import and basic manipulation (cross fades for example) isn't there, you can still import audio into the layers of a patch and do incredible things with it. ReFX opened up Nexus eventually so that you could do your own patch design in much more sophisticated ways. Eric is very smart and I am sure they have a pretty clear and sensible product roadmap.
I would suggest that many of the people complaining about things like interfaces, sound sources, and feature shortcomings read the manual which is available online and is very detailed. You may just find that you didn't realize what you wanted was already possible/configurable.
The thing that Omnisphere doesn't have that is an issue is multicore CPU support. All of your patches are going on a single core. This really needs to be addressed in my opinion. Other than that, this update is fantastic and I would suggest spending time actually making new patches with it before passing any judgement.

Anyway, now that my narrative has been completely destroyed and I'm in ruins, you don't have to worry that you might have misunderstood the idiom and why I was pointing out how it was used.IvyBirds wrote: Fri Oct 24, 2025 6:25 pm Also thanks for pointing out the original saying, as it hilariously blows up your entire narrative as you are judging a book before you read it based on the cover and making assumptions about it
I'll keep in mind that you're going around reading AI generated books.IvyBirds wrote: Fri Oct 24, 2025 6:25 pm Just like good sound designers don't always make the best graphic designers and great software developers also don't automatically make for great graphic artists
Also it's silly to not read a book that could be good just because it has an AI cover when you would read one that has a cover made by someone other than the author of the book

Well I'm glad we moved on from the browser to something far more important.

Yeah, I wouldn't take the metaphor too seriously.Morty-C-137 wrote: Fri Oct 24, 2025 6:26 pm Yah.. you know.. metaphor..etc.

I used Omnisphere 1 a long time ago. My first exposure to 3 was checking out a video of someone else using it, a few hours ago, and it happened that one of the first things I saw was that image in the UI. Knowing how good the Spectrasonics stuff was in the past, I thought maybe I was mistaken. But, yeah, I looked at the Spectrasonics website, and the AI generated images are also there. Yeesh.
I mean, yeah, I don't want to be staring at that.
Having already encountered AI slop generated sample packs combined with AI slop cover art, it's hard to not have that association.
I hope they just replace it. I'd rather look at Eric Persing's MS Paint drawing of a guitar.

You know, I could be wrong - often am - but I don't think Eric will ever significantly expand sample import. But if he ever retires, I bet his successor will.inaheartbeat wrote: Fri Oct 24, 2025 6:36 pm I believe that eventually Spectrasonics is going to open up Omnisphere to much more sophisticated sample import and manipulation. What people so often miss about Spectraonics is how they are pretty much solely focused on musicians. Eric recently said in the Sonic State interview they are all musicians who had to figure out the engineering (paraphrase). I think this is his secret sauce.
He is adamant that Omni never becomes Kontakt. Samplers are inherently technical. Loop points, key zones, velocity zones... it's all techy. He just doesn't want that. Now of course musicians use Kontakt routinely, but as sample PLAYBACK. So of course Omni embraces that. And sure, it can import single samples for use in granular, that's easy enough - there and no further.
For a good decade I was immersed in the rollout of DVD as a format. I loved it. Everyone said the reason it wouldn't take off is that it lacked a record button. It took off. Eventually some models grew a record button, and no-one cared. DVD was always best as a playback format.
I think much the same about Omni as a sampler. Everyone says they want it. Falcon is an example of a have-it-all product that is not in the same league as Omni in my book. It's profoundly unmusical - though later iterations have seen significant improvements to playback, it's designed by a computer programmer fundamentally.
I want Omni to stay Omni. Even though I don't agree with his every decision, I hope Eric stays in charge until he's 190.

Nope, not everyone. I'm an Omnisphere user since (literally) Day One and I've never wanted it to be a full-blown sampler. Actually, I suspect most users either don't want it or don't even care enough to think about it. As is typical, there's likely a disproportionately small yet very vocal minority requesting it. A more common complaint is that it's already too bloated.noiseboyuk wrote: Fri Oct 24, 2025 6:54 pm I think much the same about Omni as a sampler. Everyone says they want it.
