Why not just a flyout window (instead of clicking), when hoovering with mouse coursor over the name field? Thal'll be so helpful...

If I remember well that's a performance problem, especially on Windows: creating multiple edit boxes upon skin load takes quite a bit of time, so that's why it was done like this.
