I did not realize. Are you the AudioMulch guy? If so, Right on! I used it for a while back in the day. Also this entire thread was stared as an insecure reaction to a different thread where someone was asking if Reaper was the best long term choice.toitoi wrote: Sun Sep 28, 2025 7:24 amDear Michael, sorry for a long delay. Is REAPER the current worst long term choice?

Sometimes I'm tempted to get Cubase for unknown reasons!
But I'm getting too lazy for moving on to another universe of potential issues.
Reaper is fine by me.

I get it, Cubase is a solid DAW in terms of features though. I'm just more into the crazy modular nature of Reaper or Logics insanely good instruments. I'm at the expert level in DP though, I know where everything is and at least half the key commands memorized, so that really gets in the way of wanting to jump ship.
The worst part of using other DAWs is all the non standardization that happens with naming nomenclature, the same batch of midi and audio in a sequence is a clip is an object, item, block etc. etc. depending on the DAW..

I'm not even close to half of what your needs are.
For me is mostly workflow aspects that fits my mind for non-professional use and, of course, experimentation (which Bitwig should be right up there with this, but unfortunately I can't gel with it).

Opposite of you there, love Bitwig, much better workflow than Live, but Live offers most of what I need, and I found a super cheap used Push 3 Standalone a while ago, so I'm determined to deal with it's quirks and make it my live rig. Plus Max4Live is better than the Grid in most ways, including amazing third party devices. So I'm stuck with Lives mouse heavy workflow.liquidsound wrote: Sat Nov 08, 2025 2:21 am (which Bitwig should be right up there with this, but unfortunately I can't gel with it).

Getting stuck can be a good thing.

Yep, not spending time relearning the basics of a DAW and knowing intimately the DAW, is why it's still mostly true, the best DAW is the one you know well, that does what you want it to.

There are demos for nearly all of them. Try them, decide which you like, make music and stop stressing over this crap.

I have to say I have been down the Reaper rabbit hole, given up due to exhaustion from customising, then gone back to it and repeated the cycle a number of times.
I even tried going back to pro tools to work on a project recently, but I quickly realised that I have. ow become accustomed to having all of Reapers advanced features. It took me going back to another one of my previous DAWs to realise that I have actually come a really long way in Reaper and that it is such an insanely capable and efficient DAW.
So this time,i came back, made a list of all the things I wanted to 'fix' then spend a couple of days just getting all of it sorted. I am now extremely happy with my install and don't think I will be leaving again.
I also think they have improved so much in the last couple of years. Many of the third party scripts I used to use are not needed as reaper has added many of the actions natively.
So the Jankiness I used to experience is, for the most part, gone.
Even the v7 theme, when properly customised, is actually excellent.
So now, I use Bitwig for writing / programming and then Reaper for tracking vocals and mixing.
Couldn't be happier, I have never had such control and flexibility in my life.

Good combo. And it would be perfect if Bitwig were VST/CLAP so it could be loaded in Reaper.DorianBloom wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 1:23 pm So now, I use Bitwig for writing / programming and then Reaper for tracking vocals and mixing.
