I'm wondering, most people here are against piracy, right? But it's o.k. to use (a) Hackingtosh? I don't get it.

It's a Yin/Yang thing
You know... The small black dot in the white portion and the small white in the black one.

The machine I'm typing on is running Win11 Pro... with only a local account.
The machine I'm finishing for a client is also running Win11 Pro... with only a local account.

It's not the same as piracy, I bought a legal copy of snow leopard direct from apple. It is a violation of their terms of use to install it on non-apple HW. Apple always knew about it, and never went after anyone for personal use, selling these machines commercially on the other hand is something they will pursue.

Forget Hackintosh…. Build up a system baed on the latest M4 chipset. It’s kick butt and you can have a capable system that runs 99% of your software for peanuts.
A) $1150 —MacBook Air. M4 2025. 24 GB, 512GB SSD - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DZDBHQPQ?re ... tle_5&th=1
B) $149 — Samsung T7 2TB SSD - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0874XWW23?re ... tle_2&th=1
C) $99 Acer 27” Monitor.
Now you have a portable system that just kicks butt over anything you can hack together, is supported, and is mobile. Out the door, delivered for under $1400
This is a serious system, with buckets of RAM ( which on the M4 is way different than anything you may have experienced on other systems - especially Apple systems).

Not a bad suggestion, especially the Samsung T7 reliable - yet this is just external - i tried this route, but its still a pain - get as much internal SSD space as possible is my advice, supplement from there. I just picked up a 2020 M1 16GB and 2TB for 600 - to get that much drive space in the m4 the price jumps crazy high real quick - hard pass!
Looks like the M4 is realistically 70% faster to maximum 150% faster in some operations than the M1 but eh - i have an i9 I don't even use - That might be an option in the future however.
