Then I got this.

It was worth it... well, I got it on GC's 50% off sale too. :) I can't work without a sustain pedal!

Thanks Devon. Yeah that's the one I am looking to get. Just need to be sure it works with my Evolution MK249C keyboard. Maybe it will make it mpore attractive for my wife to play. I love hearing her play Chopin and Beethoven Sonatas- with a pedal I will get her to record a few of these for when I am auditioning new sound patches.

I was going to say that it should work, but I have mine hooked to my Yamaha W5. If your keyboard doesn't have a polarity switch for the sustain pedal, you'll probably be stuck with the sustain pedal up gives you sustain, and it down, it plays normally.

I'll try and find out today. OT: See I'm going to audition monitors choosing between Event SP8s or Dynaudio BM5A? The Dynaudios are very nice but the Events have a broader spectrum with only a slightly less focused mid.

I would have thought it would be hard to make the Evolution MK249C keyboard attractive to play to someone who likes to play Chopin and Beethoven. :?

Gordon - you can use EnergyXT to make it so that a specific key on your controller can activate CC64 (ie send value 127) for sustains and when you release the key, it will deactivate it (ie send value 0).

No good if you're playing Chopin of course, but it might be handy if you're only playing one handed parts.

You'd just use one midi patcher component and one of NicFit's plugins (Note2CC).

Anyway - that's an option for you. PM me if you want the details.

Yeah, it's worth getting the better sustain pedal. I used to use the other one (still do reluctantly if that's all I got on me) but one time it broke on me and I had to play piano with no sustain pedal. Boy did that suck.

I'll have to look into that (it's in the Manual somewhere, right) -See 'm not even as far as assigning envelopes to VST parameters.

I do like the idea of using a sustain pedal even with my rudimentary keyboard skills. I saw a nice Yamaha sustain with a metal pedal for CDN$30 that will probably need to be rewired since my keyboard does not have a polarity toggle - no biggie as I have a fair bit of experience with repairing plugs and building cables.

I spent most of my time trying to decide whether to get the Dynaudio BM5A or Event SP8s - very tough choice - I gave up and left and will sleep on it.

For sure but we only own a small upright and I can entice her to play some of the pianos in SS2 or GPO for example. The Evolution keys are no where near good enough for proper piano playing but still very useful for getting some parts that can write but that are impossible for me to play or program. :D

I suggest getting a good pedal with a polarity switch. Then you never have to worry. I had to do this when I started mixing Roland and Korg gear. :?

All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

Thanks Rabid. I got the meatl Yamaha and it works great with no polarity switching required.

OT I having a blast with my new Event SP8As. Everything sounds clear and detailed. I can hear things I need to tweak. NOthing can beat good monitors even though I do have a good but old set of B&W hifi speakers.

Chhers,
Gordon

When are you going to buy your wife that grand piano she wants?

Just got SS2 installed about 10 minutes ago.

Oh my. I expected good sound and got it. What I did not expect is the low CPU hit. In Sonar my system idols at 1 percent. Call up a nice pad in SS2, hit a 6 note chord, and wow, 3 percent usage. :-o

That's nice. Installing ST2XL now. I have a feeling that these will be filling a lot of parts in my sequencer.
