I can confirm the plugin doesn't work in VST3 version, using FL Studio (Windows 10). The rom files are all in the appdata folder, yet the plugin won't recognize them.

Works fine over here in FL as VST3...

Same here.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before:

I just noticed the 500 Factory bank has many sounds that don't match up to what the preset name is.
e.g. the "E.Grand 1" sounds like a slap bass preset, and "Rhodes 2" sounds like that famous Sararr/Fairlight sound.

Besides that it works great. :)
I use Cakewalk as my DAW.

When you click on one of those sounds that sounds wrong, do you briefly see the message "EXP Board not ready!"..?

If so, the samples in that expansion board aren't being seen correctly, which is why the plugin is likely defaulting to internal waveforms for those patches. Flip back to the factory 880 bank, then try to select the 500 bank again - now when I choose them, I don't see that error message and the sounds work as they should. Worth a try.

Basically - like the hardware, it looks like it takes a little time to switch between Expansion boards. Although it's somewhat quicker on the plugin than on the hardware... ;)

Yes, I have noticed the same. You cannot rush through the sounds, you have to switch from one sound to another a little slower than we are used to doing.

Hi, could you elaborate a little on what you mean by "Flip back to sound internal sounds, then try again"? I don't understand what you meant.

Yes, it does say that sometimes (EXP Not Ready).

I tried switching to a couple of the other banks, playing some presets, then went back to the 500 bank and it worked ok. Thanks! :tu:

Sorry, I did write that somewhat clumsily... I mean, select 880 Factory bank in the left column, choose/load some presets, then click the 500 Factory bank. If the display says "EXP Board not ready!" just wait a second or two, that should go away, and the new expansion board has loaded, and the presets in that bank should now load correctly.

Remember, the hardware firmware is not written to support dynamic expansion card changes. To change an expansion board, you have to turn off the JV880, remove the cover, remove the board, put a new board in, the power up again. As the plugin can not change how the firmware works, it needs to handle that somehow, and that evidently takes a few seconds in some cases.

I'm using these ROMs I found on Internet Archive: [MOD REMOVED - PROBABLY NOT LEGAL];
Instead of publishing a link to files, could you tell us the path you're putting them?

Then by extension is this entire thread not in danger of angering a litigious company like Roland?

I'll let the internet lawyers fights over that question. I just don't want anyone to get in legal hot water including KVR.

Downloaded the Windows vst3 version but when I try to load it into Cubase 14 it says can't load ROM. Is there something else I'm supposed to download?

Have to Google it, link here is against the rules

We're talking here about the hardware emulation, it's not about how to download copyrighted samples. Emulation is not a copy, and as long as it's not sold, just free... it's inside legal boundaries.

I did every imaginable search I could think of. Even went to archive.org. Nothing. Oh well, thanks for nothing.
