What specific purpose plugin did you fall for marketed as do-it-all that didn't in fact do it all?

Yep, I'll say it was Ozone.
Not really worth the $$$

But I'm old school and have mastering chains I've built out through the years, that work much better

Just my $0.02
I have a really fast computer, some good mics, vintage musical instruments, and lots of fancy software. Just need some talent

Been exponentially happier without them on my systems. But still get spammed from all three regularly.

On the other hand, I have several standalone plugins that I prefer over some of Ozone's modules, or in addition to Ozone, so I very rarely finish songs using just Ozone, unless it's a quick demo or maybe a simple song that e.g., only has piano and vocals.
Do you prefer the stand alone plugins because they reflect the sound you are after when you master currently or are they just better plugins for that particular job?
My 2c: Ozone is good at a lot of things but, not usually great at any one thing. Occasionally one of the Maximizer models will be unbeatable. Imager can work in spots. The Stabilizer is decent. The rest is all pretty 'meh'.

But if you could only have one mastering plugin, it'd be the one.

If you could only have one synth to cover all musical bases from Orchestral to Dubstep, not sure what could top it. Maybe Unify or Falcon?

Another vote for Omnisphere.

Tried to love it for a couple years. Sold it well over a year ago (2?) and have never missed it.

I can only think of 2 (Ozone & Trackcomp).

Yes, Trackcomp, not because it's bad, but because one might have thought/hoped that it could cover all compression duties.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Still missing some popular hardware, vari mu compression too. And quite limited in features since it's a Track plugin, and honestly not really a big fan of the DMG mode sound. So I just use this for the analog models, but I barely pull TC2 up because some of the models I like (2A, 2500 in FB) have quite a CPU hit, and also 90% of the time analog models are not needed, clean digital is enough, but I don't love the digital mode. So yeah, Trackcomp.

Agree on Trackcomp. The models are fine, but don't like the IU, the metering is pretty bad.

I'm always pimping TB Impress 3 here. It's everything I wanted Trackcomp to be, and more.

If the insinuation is that I'm one of the mindless Omni fanbois here, go take a look at the O3 thread in the Instruments forum. I've lobbed plenty of criticism of it there and taken a lot of flack from the fanbois.

But that doesn't mean I'm blind to the breadth of the tool.

It might be worth it if someone didn't have the other tools.

Like you my other tools covered a lot and also have better mojo/character.

There are a few bit of Ozone I use though, but I could live without it.

If there was a you just use one plugin, then I think the Waves Omnichannel would be a good candidate. I used it on a collaborative project so we would have the same tools, and it worked really well.

There are other channel strips I'd be quite happy to use for filters/EQ/compression as well like UAD 88RS or their API, but the Omnichannel has saturation and dessing.

But sometimes back I mixed something three times with two UAD strips and then with individual plug ins, and the individual plug ins were clearly better, especially on the main parts. I will use strips but mainly on non main parts.
