It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

weird. i know they changed how the CPU meter in Live works at some point so it isn't reflecting the same things as it used to but i guess you can always look at apple's activity monitor see what's up.HTT wrote: Sat Nov 22, 2025 2:29 am I have an Intel Macbook Pro. Korg synths, Dune 3, and Diva all use notably more CPU with 12 vs.11. Serum 2 is better by about 15% with 12 though.
I requested a refund/license withdrawal from Ableton. I don’t want to wait for a promise of a fix.
i wonder if it's a thing where 12 is better on apple silicon than intel?
they've already announced 12.3. no idea if it fixes the issues w/cpu performance that you're experiencing.

the midi tools and max for live enhancements in 12 are really awesome imo. general updates to browser and everything else have been great in use/work flow. i enjoy it a lot more than Live 11. sorry it didn't work out for you.

Does someone knows a good (and free) pattern-based grid sequencer in M4L, with the kind of GUI that reminds the classic Roland drum machine ?
From the results I found, the one that fits best to what I'm searching is the Killihu Ki-Sequencer, and I guess I will finally buy it one day, but for the moment I'm searching for a free alternative.

Have you checked out the ones included with live? Searching on YouTube for “free max for live sequencer” will return a lot of results of various relevance to what you’re looking for. Btw I think isotonik is doing a Black Friday sale and they do sell the killihu devices and many others.Calagan wrote: Mon Nov 24, 2025 5:52 am Does someone knows a good (and free) pattern-based grid sequencer in M4L, with the kind of GUI that reminds the classic Roland drum machine ?

Thanks for the infos, but I know all this : I'm not interested in the built-in Live stuff I tried, and the Killihu device is actually at the same price all the year on the site of Killihu.dayjob wrote: Mon Nov 24, 2025 6:13 amHave you checked out the ones included with live? Thanks for the links. I did know Juicy Loops, but didn't know drumgates... It looks interesting and seems to look like what I'm searching for, I will try it soon.noiseresearch wrote: Mon Nov 24, 2025 8:11 amThere are a couple of devices which might be interesting for you.Calagan wrote: Mon Nov 24, 2025 5:52 am Does someone knows a good (and free) pattern-based grid sequencer in M4L, with the kind of GUI that reminds the classic Roland drum machine ?

there are many step sequencers out there but only a few are free and not that many that are step sequencers in the xOx grid style. the built in ableton devices do offer a lot for free. if you're willing to shell out a few $ then there are more options.Calagan wrote: Mon Nov 24, 2025 1:40 pmThanks for the infos, but I know all this : I'm not interested in the built-in Live stuff I tried, and the Killihu device is actually at the same price all the year on the site of Killihu.dayjob wrote: Mon Nov 24, 2025 6:13 amHave you checked out the ones included with live? the ned rush "Drum rack buddy" is worth a look. it's $20 before using the 30% off coupon w/the blackfriday sale "BLACK30" coupon which also makes the killihu sequencer about $30.. which i think is a slightly lower price than on the killihu site.

Thanks for all these recommendations. I will check the Ned Rush drum rack. I'm broke now, but it looks nice and similar to the Killihu Sequencer (and cheaper). But I may fall for the Killihu option, because everything I bought from him was top notch, very well conceived and bug-free (and regularly updated).dayjob wrote: Mon Nov 24, 2025 5:02 pmthere are many step sequencers out there but only a few are free and not that many that are step sequencers in the xOx grid style. the built in ableton devices do offer a lot for free. if you're willing to shell out a few $ then there are more options.Calagan wrote: Mon Nov 24, 2025 1:40 pmThanks for the infos, but I know all this : I'm not interested in the built-in Live stuff I tried, and the Killihu device is actually at the same price all the year on the site of Killihu.dayjob wrote: Mon Nov 24, 2025 6:13 amHave you checked out the ones included with live? Before I try to make one, is there a device already that will do dynamic (hermode) tuning ? Not just changing a scale, but also allowing the root to be changed dynamically as different chords are played ?

Checking all of them, this is what I'm afraid of. And I know also it's stupid to save a little bit and finally buy the expensive one because it's just better, more useful and more creative.kraster wrote: Tue Nov 25, 2025 3:40 pm I've tried just about every m4l step sequencer there is and Sequencer Ki is probably the best of them.
Reason why I think I will just buy the Killihu one...

it's the logical thing to do. go get the killihu sequencer-ki when you can.Calagan wrote: Tue Nov 25, 2025 8:04 pmChecking all of them, this is what I'm afraid of. By the way, can I abuse the fact you all seem to be quite knowledgeable guys regarding M4L offering ?
I'm also searching for a good "temporary mapping" M4L device. I just need such a device in order to control plugins and vsti parameters without using the permanent Live mapping system.
Live had a legacy Expression Control that can serve this purpose (I don't know why they get rid of CC control in the new Expression Control), but it's a bit limited.
The 3d party devices I'm using now are the JGJPCCmapper or the Midihub device by SimonR. They're nice, but have different issues : JGJPCCmapper is very basic with no curve or smoothing features, MidiHub is great but a memory and CPU hog, and I had some stability issues recently (that seem to get fixed with recent Live updates, but you never know).
By good device, I mean a stable, CPU efficient, regularly updated device with some decent features (curve, smoothing...)
