How to make snap to grid default to off?

Is there a way to turn off snap to grid unless I specifically need it?

I don't know of any way to do that, but you might be able to crate a project template that includes it. And it's pretty easy to press the Q key, depending on your dexterity I suppose
Surely there must be consensus by now...

On the Edit page, there is a button in the lower left button-cluster (if it's not been hidden) called Snap-to-grid. There is an "off" option in there, along with a Snap-clips-to-other-clips option.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.
