1. Open a NOVUM on a track in waveform
2. Add an empty automation track to the NOVUM track (click the small plus at the end of the NOVUM track)
3. Drag the small 'A' at the end of the Automation track and drop it on the NOVUM plugin in the novum track. This will open a menu with clickable parameters and learn for the plugin.
4. There is also a learn button in the master section at the bottom of Waveform. I think this is where you learn your hardware.

Anyway, whatever i did, it seemed to work... see screenshot below!

Thanks, but you are describing DAW automation, which is perfectly fine. And probably helpful to Tracktion DAW users. But that is a completely different animal from plug-in based MIDI learn, which is what this topic was originally about.

Plug-in MIDI learn is dependent on the individual developers to include it in the plug-in, and many, but not all do. If they do not, then DAW automation as you describe is the only way to access the exposed automation parameters for the respective plug-in.
Windows 10 and too many plugins

Right. I pinged Dawesome to ask him to add Midi Learn to his synths and I will buy them in the Traktion store.

On most daws including Cubase 11, the DAW side midi learn features are trash and don't function and without midi learn inside the plugin itself, the plugin is worthless to me.

There are many ways to use plugins, and one of them is as a performance instrument, and without midi learn, it is impossible to set up a per VST set of CCs that works reliably, even in DAWs that do have these features.

And no I'm not switching to Traktion. What a weirdo DAW that one is.

Yeah, Dawesome Novum is all new on version 1, so there are sure to be improvements made based on user feedback post release. And developer Peter V seems receptive to suggestions. He claims that this project has a many years long roadmap ahead, and that this is just the beginning of the journey. Be interesting to hear his response to your request.

Tracktion has apparently never gotten around to adding MIDI learn to their in-house plug-ins, even though they claimed it was on their to-do list years ago.

I am in agreement on the preference for plug-in side MIDI learn, especially for "live" instrument playing. DAW automation has never cut it for me in that regard! Oh well, not enough demand for it among Tracktion users I suppose...

Traction Waveform is a different sort of DAW with it's own strengths. It is designed for musicians to create music with, rather than for recording engineers to record, mix, and master in the traditional sense. It is a secondary DAW for me. I bought it primarily for the MIDI pattern generators, which are quite cool. Another creative tool...

I agree with you 100%. I have started using VST Host for Live and haven't really looked back. The MIDI learn is better in that regard.

I feel like Bitwig and Tracktion are very similar. I absolutely could use them to record a band and produce a track but that isn't their strong suit. Right now I own Nuendo, Cubase, Tracktion and Bitwig. I use Bitwig the most and if someone wanted to record a track with me for sake of the old days I would probably record in Bitwig just because I am so familiar with Bitwig. I highly recommend Bitwig and second (Not by a really big margin) for music creation and I have used Biotwig live several times and it worked really well.

Bitwig is my DAWs and UHe and Tracktion Synths are my Bae. I maybe buy one synth a year. REMEMBER SELF just one synth a year!

I just want to reassign the mod wheel that currently controls vibrato so that it controls velocity but I don't see how to do that. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

You did not mention which instrument you are using?

Velocity is normally a one-time-per-note-event reflection of how fast a key event occurs. Did you want to control volume or something else?

Well? Did standard MIDI Learn ever get implemented on the whole line of Tracktion synths? I'm mulling over some Black Friday purchases, but I can't find any information on this.

Just download the manual and read for your synth your looking for.
