It is.
Restarted Sononym scanning (Refresh - look for changes) just to see how it behaves. SSD written value went up from 3.5TB to 3.7TB in ~10 minutes.
See the screenshot from Resource Monitor in Win11: 200 MB writes every second...

This mode is way more useful now that you can sort and edit/favourite the files while the search is running. As for accuracy - it is as accurate or inaccurate as it ever was, but we have some ideas on how to surface up the most promising search results first.PsYAuM wrote: Thu Nov 27, 2025 6:33 am Has the Improved Similarity Search improved?
Is it more accurate?

Interesting, thanks.anoise wrote: Thu Nov 27, 2025 8:37 am See the screenshot from Resource Monitor in Win11: 200 MB writes every second...
As mentioned, I believe we could reduce the I/O by inserting in bulk. Right now, every analysed result is inserted separately.

My libraries load quicker now, thanks! But did you remove the whole synonym search system and swapped it for tags? It was an easier way (IMO) to quickly look which terms are included in the filename search, for example snare (sd, snr, etc..).

AUTO-ADMIN: Non-MP3, WAV, OGG, SoundCloud, YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter and Facebook links in this post have been protected automatically. Once the member reaches 5 posts the links will function as normal.
Please fix this. When updated, I couldn't get new version to "upgrade" the database. Luckily I had the database backup.danoise wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 8:10 pmIt's being looked into.kinkajou wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 6:49 pm As much as i love that there's such a nice update i have to admit that the new version completely destroyed my Sononym library.![]()
So reverted back to v1.5.6 and waiting for support to answer.
MAC OS Sonoma here
For good measure, here are direct links to the previous installers:
https://sononym.net/download/Sononym-1.5.6-arm64.dmg (https://sononym.net/download/Sononym-1.5.6-arm64.dmg)
https://sononym.net/download/Sononym-1.5.6.dmg (https://sononym.net/download/Sononym-1.5.6.dmg)
https://sononym.net/download/Sononym-1.5.6.exe (https://sononym.net/download/Sononym-1.5.6.exe)
https://sononym.net/download/sononym-1.5.6.tar.bz2 (https://sononym.net/download/sononym-1.5.6.tar.bz2)
On macOS, having multiple versions installed side-by-side is as simple as renaming the application, as they maintain separate configuration files.
I had to revert to Sononym 1.5.6 to continue my work.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, we switched because some of the thinking behind the old system was flawed. It's really inefficient to search for all possible synonyms ('snare' AND 'sd' AND 'snr' AND so on), as you can probably imagine.. But don't worry, synonyms will be re-introduced as keyword suggestions that appear as you are typing in the search input. We just didn't get around to it yet.Teeh wrote: Thu Nov 27, 2025 6:43 pm did you remove the whole synonym search system and swapped it for tags? If you want a little preview, try opening the tag assigner dialog and type something into the text field. This will give you an idea about how many keywords+synonyms that exist in the new system (hint: _a _lot_)

Trying to load a newer database into an old version of the software just isn't possible.Rebuilding is the only path here.playtimer wrote: Thu Nov 27, 2025 7:09 pm Please fix this. When updated, I couldn't get new version to "upgrade" the database.
Fortunately, 1.6.1 will be out by tomorrow.

If you want a little preview, try opening the tag assigner dialog (Shift+T while the results are focused) and type something into the text field. This will give you an idea about how many keywords+synonyms that exist in the new system (hint: _a _lot_)

EDIT: Is there any way to batch delete tags from selected files? Right now im removing each tag from the selected samples one by one

Yep, just select all the files you want and then invoke the tag assigner from the context menu. This will allow you to manipulate all the selected files instead a single one.Teeh wrote: Fri Nov 28, 2025 12:02 am EDIT: Is there any way to batch delete tags from selected files? And this is actually a general UI convention in Sononym:
* When you click some kind of icon next to a file, you're editing that particular file.
* If you are right-clicking _inside_ a selection, you are editing all the selected files.
New in Sononym 1.6: If you are right-clicking _outside_ a selection, you are editing that particular file. This is useful if you want to do something to a file without necessarily selecting it.

Actually, pulled the trigger and put it out already.
Version 1.6.1
* Fixed: Unable to rebuild legacy libraries
* Fixed: Failure to upgrade some libraries (unexpected content)
* Fixed: Failure to mount files on a path which contain single quotes
* Fixed: Compression artifacts in macOS icon
* Fixed: Lingering file lock affecting mount/rebuild (Windows)
