I've just downloaded the demo and trying to make transition from Logic to Traction please help!
I cant seem to get the quantizing smack on grid with the midi click.
I mean it does quantize I can hear the difference but it does not seem to get it on beat unless I go 1/1, 1/2.
My playing is not that bad, I never have any trouble with Logic @ 1/16th of a second on the grid.
I have also tried quantizing by selecting the notes in the matrix note grid screen so whats the problem?
Where am I going wrong??

For you to quantize at 1/16th in tracktion, you're gonna need to use 1/4. Jules (the leader of the Tracktion cult) didnt use the same measurement as the other sequencers so its kinda confusing. He explained it once but I forgot the details. Anyways hope that helps. Be sure to visit the tracktion forum if you're still having problems.

Doesn't 1/4 in Tracktion mean 1/4 of the bottom number in the time signature (so 1/16 = 1/4 * 1/4 for common time)? Whereas any other host takes 1/4 to mean a quarter note.

Warmonger has it right.
The tracktion quantization is scaled against a beat instead of a 4/4 bar. so 1/4 is equal to a sixteenth note, and 1/2 is an eighth note. this makes 1/16 a 64th note.

You mean I need to change the "Time Signiture" from 4/4 to 1/4?
I've tried that, if thats what you were refering to, and the bars have all gone out of whack., Confusing:help:

Whats wrong with this guy
is he tryin to rewrite history.? this is not right!, how could he fail here?
Is there anyway to fix this without changing tim sig? if not what time sig shall i set on? still baffled?

You don't need to change the time signature to quantize. You just have to do a bit of mental math every time you want to quantize.
Or, just remember that 1/4 in Tracktion means 1/16, 1/2 means 1/8, and so on. Until you switch to a different time signature, of course.
Come to think of it, I'm hoping this is changed in T2 to the "standard" behavior. Tracktion does a lot of things differently, and that's what I like about it, but in this case, it's not (IMO) an improvement over other hosts.

Jules made T work the way he wanted it to. You can't say it's a failure or an oversight. It was (probably) a conscious design decision that he made in development.Mr Sleep wrote:Whats wrong with this guyis he tryin to rewrite history.? this is not right!, how could he fail here?

ok, I can live with that.
is there any option to have a "large disk buffer"?
Other than tuning the latency, I was able to conjure up more tracks with Logic by ticking the large disk buffer option.
Any way to squeeze extra life with Tracktion?

Thanks for reminding me about that, actually. I hardly use audio tracks at all, and I've probably been wasting a bit of RAM by not changing it from the default.

Just to reitterate;
1/4 is one quater of a beat.
In 4/4 time a beat is a quater note.
1/4 of a quater note is a 1/16 note.
So, 1/4 will quantize to sixteenth notes.
In 6/8 time a beat is an eigth note.
So you would use 1/2 to quantize to sixteenth notes.

oh cheers thanks for the input guys you've been very helpfull.
just one more querie I have!
Im trying to automate, cutoff, res, attack, decay etc but its not updating the paramater names.., am I doing something wrong?
After expanding track I select the knob on the left then I go controllers but it gives me the same paramater naming for every synth??

I had problems with this quantize method at first also. I just multiply the bottom number in the fraction by 4 and it seems to work (at least in 4/4 time). No need to memorize or do fractional math.
