Problem with midi in

Hello!

Evaluating the Tracktion1 demo, I´m impressed with the ease of use and am seriously considering switching from Cubase SX.

One problem: When trying to play from my Yamaha midipiano, there´s no sign whatsoever that the midi signal from my piano and Midisport4x4 is reaching the sequencer, it´s dead silent. Still, Tracktion recognizes all midi ins and outs of the midi device in Settings - Audio devices.

When trying to do this in Cubase there´s no problem.

Any ideas of what to do?

Thanks

Klagga

Check to see if you have "end-to-end" enabled in both the device you're trying to trigger, and in the master out (end to end button is located under the "click" button, and when you click on the device in the properties panel).

Are you trying to trigger a VST with the midi keyboard? If so, make sure you drag the midi input to the track you want to play (of course).

Thanks for trying, but it doesn´t seem to help. :(

"Check to see if you have "end-to-end" enabled in both the device you're trying to trigger, and in the master out (end to end button is located under the "click" button, and when you click on the device in the properties panel)."

E-to-e is enabled in both places.

"re you trying to trigger a VST with the midi keyboard? If so, make sure you drag the midi input to the track you want to play (of course)."

Sure, midi input is in place.

Still no midisignal to Tracktion. :(

I take it you have MIDI working in SX? So I won't suggest driver issues..?

I use a Midisport 2*2 with no problems, so it should be possible!

Check your routing for the track: if your MIDI is feeding a vst, that track will need to be routed to an audio out for you to hear anything..

You may not have realized that Tracktion audio meters also display MIDI activity.. try routing your MIDI in to a track with no extra filters, which is routed to a MIDI out, and see if there is any activity indicated..

- MIDI is working in SX.

"I use a Midisport 2*2 with no problems, so it should be possible!"

- Good to hear!

"Check your routing for the track: if your MIDI is feeding a vst, that track will need to be routed to an audio out for you to hear anything.."

- I´m using Tracktion to record midi from my Yamaha piano keyboard and play up notes from the same keyboard. No signal whatsoever reaches Tracktion, though. With SX everything is OK.
At the same time, I have another keyboard, a MAudio Radium, to play VST-instruments with without any problem.

- No activity. :(

Is this using USB? You do realise that MIDI from your Midisport will arrive into Tracktion via a different input icon? Sorry if thats really basic, but if you're used to Cubase perhaps you expect ALL active inputs to be merged to a single icon.. they aren't!

I'll have to hand over to someone else till this evening.. have to go visit my Gran in hospital now. :(

That's a weird one allright. Have you tried swapping keyboard around on the 4x4?
Another suggestion would be to run Midiox to see what the yam is sending, or not, as far as midi signal goes.

I switched the midi chord into the Midiman 4x4 from A to B (of the possible A-B-C-D) and then it worked! It still doesn´t work when I use the other inputs (A, C, D) of the Midiman 4x4 for Tracktion, though. (In SX all work.) Sure is weird!

Well, at least I can use the Yamaha now, thanks! :)

Ok, then we can take the controller out of the equation.
Problem is then with Tracktion, the 4x4 or it's driver. I would start with the 4x4 driver if it was me and download/reinstall the latest one from M-Audio. Failing that I would reinstall T making sure it gets installed all with default settings.

BTW, I'm running a 2x2 with T now without problems, so it should work.

Glad your getting somewhere at least.

You couldn't have a dodgy / intermittent MIDI cable could you? In my experience MIDI leads have a talent for dying at exactly the right moment to lay the blame on another piece of gear..

I´ll do some tidying up in my studio soon and check all cables and such, plus reinstall OS and all drivers. Then I probably will get some answers...

In the meantime, thanks for helping me with this. I´ve decided to put my trust in Tracktion from now on! :)
