What you're saying, @Urs, is that I just need to buy more plugins to make it more economicUrs wrote: Thu Dec 04, 2025 4:53 pm Hehehe, I did not have "87 KB is a lot" on my preparedness sheet...![]()

Wow, seeing my Zebra 3 license getting emailed to me makes it quite real now!
The license card idea is quite nice!

Essentially fancy keyfiles! I love it!! I wish all developers would learn copy protection from you guys!! It is a win-win for everyone!Urs wrote: Thu Dec 04, 2025 2:03 pm Hi all,
We are making our copy protection easier and more elegant.
In future, we are storing your serial numbers in the metadata of little PNG-images like this:
com.u-he.license_0123456789.jpg
We call these image files "License Cards" because they have a bit of the look and, hmm, feel, of credit cards or ID cards.
P.S. I burst out laughing at the end of your video! What an awesome ending!! Sparkle *Ting*

Cool! Are you and Plogue the only developers doing this?

The license card idea isn't bad in principle, but now I have a PNG file somewhere on my computer with my full, visible name and email address ? Is the PNG file at least encrypted on the computer ?

I got my license card and imported into the Zebralette 3 RC rev 20354; it seemed to work (and reported my other licensed products—except for Zebra 2, which is greyed out on the PNG).
However: even after restarting my host, Zebralette 3's control bar data display still shows "Zebralette 3.0.0 / (c) 2025 by u-he" instead of "Zebralette 3.0.0 / registered to _______" like my older registered u-he products.
Is this expected behavior? If it is: is there a way to tell a.) if the product thinks it's registered, and b.) who it thinks it's registered to?

Well don't think I had any issues... One thing though, the licence card lists Zebra 3 specifically but my Zebra Legacy and Zebra 2 option is greyed out? What does this mean, does the Zebra 3 licence cover older versions of the same product?

Same here, LC downloaded and installed without issues it seems, just can't tell if Zebralette recognises the registration after the initial success message. Looking forward to next week!

Seems to work...
I suppose the registration prompt doesn't mention Zebra2/HZ and Zebra Legacy because those are some of the plugins mentioned, that don't yet use this same Licence Card activation method?
All plugins are displayed on the Licence Card itself however. Albeit, the older Zebra plugins appear in greyed out text, as opposed to all other products which appear in white text. (I'm guessing that's also intended?)

Couldn't you just store the .png image within a password protected Winzip/Rar/7z archive for extra security? (and only extract it if/when needed) I do that anyway with my serial number text files.ThomasLehmann wrote: Thu Dec 04, 2025 6:46 pm The license card idea isn't bad in principle, but now I have a PNG file somewhere on my computer with my full, visible name and email address ? We really don't encrypt anything. The license in the metadata is plain json so anyone can parse it and see what's in there. I like the transparency of it.ThomasLehmann wrote: Thu Dec 04, 2025 6:46 pm The license card idea isn't bad in principle, but now I have a PNG file somewhere on my computer with my full, visible name and email address ? If you need pseudonyms or anonymous emails, those are not difficult to set up.
However, if your concern is that a License Card that is stored on your computer was somehow a danger to your privacy... I don't know... when I search for my name or emails address on my computer I get loads of hits, but none of those is the License Card. It would be the least of my problems.
