I'm running into a new issue in the latest version where the sample browser table doesn't display any metadata anymore. The filename column shows up correctly, but everything else stays completely blank: Date Modified, Tags, Class, Categories, Length, Peak, RMS, Pitch Class, Note, BPM, Brightness, Harmonicity, Noisiness.
Some appear but a lot go empty permanently.
Has anyone else run into this since the update?
Any ideas what could cause the table to lose all analysis information, or how to fix it?

Just circling back to the topic of high disk write activity:
In 1.6.1, the cover art is extracted only when actually selecting/viewing a file.
So, bottom line is that there might be a lot of unnecessary data that has been saved to the application support folder. You can check this yourself:
* Head into the app support folder (e.g. by choosing Help menu > Show Log File...)
* Under "Libraries", check if any of the folders contain a lot of "xx-picture-x.json" file (x being a number)
You can potentially free a lot disk space by deleting these files. We didn't come across a lot of embedded cover art in our tests, which I guess is why it got overlooked.
We have discovered something that might be of interest: the 1.6.0 release would, while scanning files, extract any cover art embedded in the files and save this to disk. Seems pretty harmless, but it was not supposed to do this during scanning, as it can take up quite a lot of space on disk.anoise wrote: Wed Nov 26, 2025 8:32 pm Looks like there is something wrong with the scanning. It just wrote 500GB on the SSD while scanning ~70GB. It rewrites the sononym.db constantly?

When scrolling around in a large list (5000 or more) of search results, data is pulled from the database on the fly. So if nothing appears, this is likely because the database engine somehow is waiting for an instruction to load content, or because the content is taking a long time to appear (in large libraries, it might take a couple of seconds).enCiphered wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 3:10 pm I'm running into a new issue in the latest version where the sample browser table doesn't display any metadata anymore.

Do you see a "shimmering" effect (a subtle gradient animation) in the background when this happens?
And is this reproducible (i.e. can you make it happen if you want, and describe the steps it takes to make it happen) ?

Hey waxtrax, thanks for the feedback!
That said, I mentioned a few posts back that we have ideas on how to bring up the most relevant search results more quickly.
The similarity search in Loopcloud is most likely precomputed - and nothing wrong with that. Sononym, on the other hand, allows you to configure how the similarity search works, via aspects. That makes it non-trivial to precompute. And this is also why the new database engine doesn't make it that much faster, since the results have to be computed first.waxtrax wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 11:24 am when doing the AI-based similarity search in Loopcloud, the results are nearly instantaneous. The accuracy is also generally good enough to justify the instant results, in my opinion.

Ugh, yes, I always felt bad about mentioning that. Partitioning your sample library is just a terrible thing to ask for. And, starting with Sononym 1.6, it really shouldn't be necessary any more.waxtrax wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 11:24 am I know there may be some tricks in Sononym to increase the performance a bit, such as partitioning the sample libraries

There are no *.json files at all in those directories, but there are more than 25.000 *samplefilename*.pak files in Libraries\*onelibrary*\crawlerTmp_9 in 1.6.0 and 1.6.1., each folder is 283 MB. I did not let it finish the scanning for that library, is that the reason for these files?danoise wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 9:25 pm * Under "Libraries", check if any of the folders contain a lot of "xx-picture-x.json" file (x being a number)
Can I delete the 1.6.0 Directory?
Thanks.

Exactly, those are compressed entries waiting to get inserted into the database, if you were to resume scanning. And yes, you can safely delete the 1.6.0 folder.anoise wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 10:27 pm There are no *.json files at all in those directories, but there are more than 25.000 *samplefilename*.pak files in Libraries\*onelibrary*\crawlerTmp_9 in 1.6.0 and 1.6.1., each folder is 283 MB. I don’t see any shimmering effect.
Scrolling through large result lists works normally. The issue mainly appears when I trigger a random search using Ctrl+Shift+Space. Not always, but fairly often the metadata columns stay blank.
Even waiting a few seconds or minutes doesn’t change anything.

I took you up on your trial offer but unfortunately I never found the improvement I was looking for in the similarity search.
I requested a refund Sunday through contact on the website and 2 days later was informed by Bjørn that the refund had been processed:
" Regarding your refund request: it has been issued, and the money should arrive in your account shortly "
I always get confirmation from my bank within 24 hours when a refund is issued that the refund is on it's way but I have had no confirmation whatsover with regards to this.
I did private message you but you still haven't read it.
Can you resolve this issue please.
Thank you

This can take more than just one business day. But let me know if it doesn't appear within the next few days.

There's a new update out (1.6.2) which improves the way the pitch-locking works.
Before, you would lock to the pitch of a sound and that was it. Now, you can select a sound, pitch it somewhat, enable lock, and continue tweaking the pitch - it should retain the selected transpose amount at all times.
Of course, as the release notes mention, it mostly works well, but it also depends on how accurately the application could detect the pitch in your sounds.
Version 1.6.2
Fixed: Custom tag labels not appearing after upgrading to 1.6.1
Fixed: Results not always updating after editing properties, tags
Fixed: Don’t migrate non-essential configuration files
Fixed: Single quotes in path could affect similarity search
Changed: Pitch lock will now retain locked pitch even when changed
Changed: MIDI is now enabled only when a device has been specified
Changed: Legacy libraries now appear much faster
Changed: Ability to upgrade libraries without replacing original
Changed: Ability to launch multiple instances of Sononym

Thanks! I just saw there's an update. I can't test it before late tonight, but will report backdanoise wrote: Thu Dec 04, 2025 12:52 pm There's a new update out (1.6.2) which improves the way the pitch-locking works.

Hi
I still haven't had any confirmation it is being processed which tells me it hasn't been issued.
As I said I always get notification within 24 hours that a refund is being processed and it is now 4 days and I haven't heard anything and support is not responding.
This doesn't look good for your company.
Can you please resolve.
Thank you

I have no connection with Synonym but I run a small business and have some experience in matters like this. Sometimes these things take time. 24 hours is the norm. Sometimes even quicker. But I've seen refunds take much much longer. Sometimes up to a week. It's banks talking to banks and sometimes some strange security measures kick in that you have absolutely no control over.PsYAuM wrote: Fri Dec 05, 2025 1:38 pm I still haven't had any confirmation it is being processed which tells me it hasn't been issued.

I wouldn't be so quick to cast the blame on Sononym. It might be the banks slowing down things.
