A little prog rock.
Yeah… Prog Rock! This is right up my alley. Wish I wrote it! Can you tell me a little bit about your studio, i.e. hardware and software that you use the most. I only use my iPad and a stylus. Ironically, I have a spare bedroom full of old gear. I have occasionally thought about digging it out and hooking it up.

Sure, no problem.

Well, I used to have an all hardware studio for many years (started in 1977 on my 20th birthday) but eventually sold all of it in 2014 and went totally ITB.

I use Cubase 14 as my DAW. I have a Keylab 49 Essential keyboard. Focustite external sound card as well as a UR28M that I am getting away from. Problems with Windows 11.

As for sound generators, I have pretty much almost every vst released in the last 11 years. I don't even want to know how many 10s of thousands of dollars I've spent.

I used to sing my songs but I hate my voice so I now use Audimee AI to take my vocals and replace them with decent ones. That's what you heard on this track. AI singers.

That's pretty much it. If you have any specific questions I'll be happy to answer them.

I worked my ass off on this one. Hope it shows. I really enjoyed orchestrating this.

I don't know what it is about singers and composers. Most every composer I know thinks their voice is terrible. Most singers think their voices are great!

Much of my old gear is pre-MIDI, i.e Fender Rhodes, MiniMoog, and a few others. I have a few more modern synths like a Korg O1/W, Alesis QS6, and a few sound modules and drum machines. I don't know why I save them since I know I'll never play a gig again. Oh well, they're nice to look at from time to time.

Based on those dates, I'm only two years older than you. It seems as though most people doing what we do are... well... seasoned citizens with life experience. I don't know what young people do these days except look at their phones.

I also post on a forum called Loopy Pro (formerly called Audiobus). The majority of people posting original music there are in our... age group. Never thought I would say that about myself. How about "demographic". That sounds better. You ought to look into it. It's free. I've been posting there since about 2021. Great group of people and quite welcoming. If you choose to join, tell them Paulie sent you. Have a great week.

Just wanted to let you know, I signed up with the forum and it appears I was accepted but I don't see any reply button on any of the posts. So it looks like I don't have posting rights yet even though I am a member.

Give it a day or so. They will be glad to have you.
I just looked at your SoundCloud page.
You are quite a prolific composer!
Are you from Roselle, Illinois?
If so... it's a small world.
I'm from Woodridge.

10th track from my upcoming CD "Conglomeration"

https://soundcloud.com/steven-wagenheim/backseat-becky

A simple old time 70s style rock tune. I basically looked up the Hollies "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" to see what amp the guitar was played through (Fender) and then pulled one up in Amplitube 5. Sounds pretty close to my ears. Vocals are AI. All in all, I think I did a decent job on this. Very minimalist. Drums, bass, double tracked rhythm guitars and 2 different lead guitars. One Rickenbacker and one Strat.
