Waveform 13.5 Ongoing Bugs

I am putting this here just so that I can keep track of the bugs I have encountered. I often forget about the details. I have also made a project for this with edits that have instances of the bugs. This way I can quickly check to see if they've been fixed. If anyone wants to confirm that the bugs exist on their system, that will probably help to narrow things down. I am running Windows 10 and at this time have Waveform Pro 13.5.19 installed.

Clip Effects

There are two bugs in Clip Effects that I have encountered. In running tests I noticed that they actually seem to be mutually exclusive.

One is a time shift when applying a plugin clip effect to a stereo audio clip. To easily reproduce:

1. To a stereo audio clip add Clip Effect -> Plugin -> Volume and Pan
The time shift happens for any plugin that I have tested. It also happens for two of the basic clip effects: Volume and Mono.

The second bug is that mono audio clips become stereo with the audio only in the left channel when you apply a clip effect to it. To easily reproduce:

1. To a mono audio clip add Clip Effect -> Volume
This happens for any of the basic clip effects that I have tried, as well as for plugin clip effects.

I have submitted a ticket (73492) for the first one. I didn't notice that the time shift for stereo and stereo problem for mono were mutually exclusive until after I submitted it. So if the devs run their own test on a mono audio file I guess they won't see the time shift bug. That goes to show how important it is to include as many details as possible when describing a problem.

I submitted a ticket (72118) for the second bug you mentioned on September 10. The developers are definitely aware.

Sorry; that wasn't my intention.

I think you're being overly dramatic. It's software. It'll have bugs. For me, I'm going to keep using it and I'm going to do what I can to help them fix the bugs. Do what works for you.

Excellent. And you're on a Mac, right? That means that it's not specific to just Windows.

I found a new wrinkle. The timing doesn't shift if there is no tempo data in the audio file. So the findings so far are when adding a Clip Effect -> Plugin to an audio clip are...

1. Stereo audio file with no ACIDized tempo information: no problems.
2. Mono audio file with no ACIDized tempo information: left channel only.
3. Stereo audio file with ACIDized tempo information: time shifts.
4. Mono audio file with no ACIDized tempo information: time shifts AND left channel only.

So, maybe the solution is to deselect "Autotempo"? or I'm wrong?

@pough what method/tools are you using to strip out the ACID/ tempo metadata ? I have been trying with Audacity, by trying to clear all metadata on export and using ffmpeg with the bitexact flags commands, but i still seem to be getting the BUG. ffprobe always still shows some basic metadata, but none of my files display any embedded tempo metadata as far as I am aware.

EDIT // Just found the ACID metadata in the Clip's header , but regardless of which settings I choose, it seems to have no effect on the bug .

Found another bug, if you select a "time-stretch" algorithm the "clip effects" feature don't work nor apply.

Timestretch still allows clip effects to work here for me, i think warp time is the culprit of your bug

In my case, both Time-stretch and Time-warp prevents to add "clip effects" maybe is because I'm on Ubuntu Studio 24.04.3, Waveform works completely different in Linux, even show some bugs not noticeable in MAC or Windows.

Ah yeah, I was testing on Win11 here, but Linux is my main driver so I feel your pain :)

I'm not. I'm using Waveform to create audio files. Since it gives you the choices of ACID/no ACID and stereo/mono it seemed a simple way for me to end up with the files I needed to run tests.

I should probably use more files from other places. If there's one thing I'm sure of it's that you can get tripped up on things you never considered.

And I've never found any software that gives me the tools I wish I had when it comes to ACIDized WAV files.
Surely there must be consensus by now...
