I just got back from a week in Brisbane. It's bloody hot at this time of year and the humidity is stifling. It's a great town, though, although not much to see and do if you can't get around. Most of the tourist attractions are on the Gold Coast, 100km down the road. I haven't lived there for 40 years so public transport might be a lot better now but in the 80s you definitely needed a car if you wanted to go to the beach. I think there's a train service down to the GC now.
Yes, Covenant are from Sweden. We've played with them a few times and we get on really well with the guys. Their stuff is very different from ours and they are way more popular than we'll ever be. The EBM scene fractured in the early 90s into a number of different streams/sub-genres but Covenant straddle the divide well and do better as a result.

I was there for three weeks in February 2024. A friend and his family had moved there during the autumn of 2022, so I thought, why not go there? I ended up having the best time, or at least the best holiday, of my life. I went to the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, and Fraser Island. Visited plenty of zoos, just like any tourist would, including Sea World. The public transport is still pretty bad, at least compared to Stockholm.
This time I'll be there for four weeks, with one week spent on the Fiji Islands. There are also plans for Sydney and Queenstown in New Zealand, though I'll be visiting those three places on my own.
I’ll probably wait until 2032 for the next visit (after this one), since the Olympic Games will be hosted by Brisbane then. Unless I move to Brisbane, I’ve actually been playing with that thought.
As for Covenant, I haven’t really listened to them much. The bands I mentioned in a previous post are pretty much the only ones I used to listen to in the early 90s. I didn’t even know the genre was called EBM back then

I think you hit the mark quite well. Wasn't quite as in your face aggro mix as i expected, seemed a bit compressed(?) I could easily picture that done live. Not my normal listening but cool beans.

Me either. Only heard that name about 10yrs ago

I try not to use too much compression but you have to hit your loudness targets, especially these days with almost no-one listening to albums any more. If your song is quieter than the one before, people won't notice it.
I'd been making EBM for 5 years or more before I knew there was a genre for it. I was just making music I liked with the tools I had to hand. It was probably another 4 or 5 years after that before I knew what it was called. To me, Skinny Puppy and Nitzer Ebb were both just "Industrial". That said, I reckon we come down more on the side of "Electro-Industrial" than EBM so I tend to use both, i.e. "EBM/Electro-Industrial", on the metatags. I think we are more Frontline Assembly than Front 242.

On this week's German Alternative Chart, the album is one of several releases with a "bullet", which means we're not in the chart yet but we're (hopefully) on our way. There's not much competition in there are the moment so we might go OK.

Nice album. Loved the little intro and spacer tracks, and the dark aggressive punk synthwave tracks sound great.
I think some of them could be great techno tracks on their own without the vocals.

Thanks! We've been putting those little palate cleansers on the last three albums. We'd been talking about it forever and finally got around to it in 2020. We really love 'em, they give the work a bit of texture you don't normally get.

Still nothing in the Singles Chart but the album is at no. 9 on the DAC this week. Early days.

The album has moved up two places on the DAC this week, now sitting at No. 7.

Wait until they hear the next one! We've already got 7 songs ready for vocals, we should have it finished in a couple of months.

Big jump on the DAC this week. The album has jumped three places, to no. 4. That's as high as our last album got but it took a few weeks of bouncing up and down to get there. I like this more consistent trajectory, hopefully it bodes well. It's more than 9 years since we last got to no. 1 so we're keeping our fingers crossed (because that makes such a huge difference, as you know). If we can do better than label-mates Fictional, that will be a bit of a coup for us.

Hey BONES, congratulations!!! Well done! It's a bit harder than I normally listen to, but there's nothing wrong with that. My favorite was Slaves. Let's hope it climbs up into the charts! You deserve another hit with all of the work you put into your project!

Yeah, SLAVES would be my pick, too. It's probably the best pure EBM song we've ever done. That said, it's the first album we've done where we really want to play every song live (even the Intro piece). I think it's more consistent than any of our others.

Serious question here, not taking the piss, and no judgment implied: when you perform any songs live which were partially done with an AI tool, will you reverse engineer that part using a plugin and play it with a midi instrument, or just use a wav file/sample for that part (let's say a bassline for example)?BONES wrote: Wed Dec 17, 2025 4:42 am Yeah, SLAVES would be my pick, too.
