Compared some pultec plugins
Waves, Nomad Factoty, Noiseash, Tim Petherick etc.
Thery are all not bad and similar, especially Nomad Factoty and Apogee (demo) very close, so they all can get some use and I like Pultec on vocals, drums, guitar and 2bus and Waves is better than its reputation imo.
I didn't like IKM and PA Lindell, well, the latter is probably not meant to be a Pultec anyway and Tim Petherick works with Acoustica Audio N4 and AA plugins are not good for a fast workflow because of causing latency and pretty high on cpu and since I have Nomad Factoty, I can't still make up my mind whether I need Apogee and I re-sold PA Bettermaker years ago, it is not Pultec at all, just a very clean eq with terrible gui.

There are two PA Bettermaker ones. One is clean and looks like 80s stereo equipment, one is the traditional style.

I don't buy or try Plugin Alliance plugins, though.
Thanks for clearing up.

I often work on a laptop and if only Nomad Factory offered the ability to open Pulse-Tecs as separate components vs always a 4-item stack. The NF AS Pulse EQ can get close to the Pulse-Tec, using a lot less screen real-estate so I added when it was dirt cheap as an alternative. I like Fuse VQP-258A, based on Langevin not Pultec, but quality simple passive EQ. Also keep Black Rooster VEQ-5 for midrange, but between Fuse and Nomad Factory, have seen no need to add the VEQ-1P.
According to my test notes, the Lindell PEX-500 and Sonimus SonEQ had the best bottom ends of the ones I checked.

If you mean the old Lindell plugins based on their 500 series units, those 500 series units are solid state EQ's. So not really the same thing, but pretty cool (and the plugins are pretty good emulations of the hardware they are based on). The curves are indeed Pultec inspired.DCrown wrote: Fri Dec 05, 2025 6:19 pm I didn't like IKM and PA Lindell, well, the latter is probably not meant to be a Pultec anyway

mixwave pultec: personal preference but i think this one beats the UAD for boxtone, slightly less stressed/grainy and more open sounding. also SS mode. i love this one for 2bus/mastering (imho mixwave are some of the best algo plugins around) sometimes tubetech for the 'softube sheen' or the clean bettermaker one for clean.

I use the new AlexB Legacy for Nebula because it's being sampled in stereo with two original vintage Pultecs. can't beat real

Since tube emulation is still a bit unconvincing in the box, how about the less often talked about.
