I have to say, I don't really get absynth. What things can it do that you can't already with synths like Serum and Phaseplant?

Although you can also use midi ccaMUSEd wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:14 pmAbsynth 5 is just the same - you assign params internally to macros - macros are what is exposed to the host for host automation (plus a master envelope).Echoes in the Attic wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:11 pm Yeah would have liked to see more parameters exposed. With these 16 Macros only, it's Massive X again. The keyboard controller tweaks for any given patch are restricted to the 16 macros.

Sure, but Absynth 5 was 16 years ago!aMUSEd wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:14 pmAbsynth 5 is just the same - you assign params internally to macros - macros are what is exposed to the host for host automation (plus a master envelope).Echoes in the Attic wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:11 pm Yeah would have liked to see more parameters exposed. What’s surprising is that many parameters do respond to the Mutate and Randomize functions, so you’d think those same parameters could have been made available for automation. But no… And since automation still isn’t available in Massive X, I guess we shouldn’t expect it anytime soon in Absynth either…

Yeah but the argument being made was that NI are doing what they did with Massive X all over again - it's the other way round (and Massive X is being updated to open up automation according to NI reps anyway)WolfKay wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:26 pmSure, but Absynth 5 was 16 years ago!aMUSEd wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:14 pmAbsynth 5 is just the same - you assign params internally to macros - macros are what is exposed to the host for host automation (plus a master envelope).Echoes in the Attic wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:11 pm Yeah would have liked to see more parameters exposed. I know Massive is set to evolve in that direction soon. I only wish Absynth had offered it right from the start after all these years. But it will surely arrive too, in its own time…”aMUSEd wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:30 pm Yeah but the argument being made was that NI are doing what they did with Massive X all over again - it's the other way round (and Massive X is being updated to open up automation according to NI reps anyway)

I know. Same as Massive X. But word on the street is that Massive X is opening up it's parameters for direct automation. I was hoping Absynth 6 would do the same. Would be nice to to have more edibility from the controller.aMUSEd wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:14 pmAbsynth 5 is just the same - you assign params internally to macros - macros are what is exposed to the host for host automation (plus a master envelope).Echoes in the Attic wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:11 pm Yeah would have liked to see more parameters exposed. Absyth always kicked butt imo, now it kicks more butt. That said, I have no need for it. Maybe I can find an excuse.

I think that's more likely now that it has proper knobs instead of those fiddly diamonds - maybe they will, it looks like there are a lot of things that could be improved in Absynth 6, even if it's incredibly fantastic to have it back - parts do feel unfinished (eg template libraries still need to be added back and the preset saving and management is still dependent on Komplete Kontrol to do things like tagging and organising patches).Echoes in the Attic wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:40 pmI know. Those things are completely unrelated.WolfKay wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 9:26 pm What’s surprising is that many parameters do respond to the Mutate and Randomize functions, so you’d think those same parameters could have been made available for automation.

Currently unable to load old patches. Pretty bummed, I was super excited for this thing and have mostly just been doing technical troubleshooting instead of getting into music.

It loads old patches in .nabs or .nksf format, older ones in .glo or .ksd will need Absynth 5 to covert first to .nabs. I've so far been able to load anything that way.

All my presets are .nabs.
It just freezes on re-scanning. No worries, I've contacted NI to see what's up.
