Post

As a Zebra Legacy owner I'm happy to see Zebra 3 finally being available as beta. However, after installation Zebra 3 and Zebralette 3 don't work in any DAW I tried. I tried to open Zebra 3 in Bitwig, Cubase 15 Pro and Reaper. Cubase freezes, Reaper crashes to desktop and Bitwig has a plugin crash (thanks to its crash protection for the DAW, only the plugin crashes). I can reload Zebra 3 in Bitwig after the crash but as soon as I try to open the GUI, it crashes again. This is reproduceable every time. As for Zebralette 3, I only tried to open it once in Bitwig but it crashed just like Zebra 3 did. Other plugins open fine without issues.

As others can open Z3, maybe there's a compatibility issue with a hardware component? Is there a specific thread or support address to communicate this issue further?

Scroll down to "Contact and bug reports"

There's a form for, well, contact and bug reports … ;-)
/JHS

Maybe the info should be in the first post?

Crashes on launch are typically due to installation issues. Did you move the data folder or something? I would suggest deleting everything and installing fresh. If that doesn't work, you can try to contact support.

I'll take a look into it and try to use a custom data folder. Maybe, there are some rights issues with the default folder (although other U-HE plugins work with within the default folder)

Update: As it was a quick check. It actually worked to select a custom data folder. Zebra 3 now loads up properly! Thanks a lot for the hint which brought up the idea to use a different data folder.

You're a boon, m8 :)

I know, I know you haven't even released this one properly, but any chance that we can get the alpha/demo UI as an alternative?

Maybe I'm hallucinating or it is just camera distortion, but in the alpha footage the UI seems to be proper 16:9-16:10 ratio, what would be perfect. My problem with the current one is that even if the 300% come to zebra land next year (or lowering the resolution for now as it seems the scaling doesn't affect it) it won't help that much because the square like UI.

Everything else seems great. Especially having it on linux!

Is it possible to contribute presets for the factory? If so, where should they be sent? Or who to contact?

Vortifex wrote: Thu Dec 11, 2025 10:32 amI'm having difficulty working out how people have made patches with sequenced notes. With the Arksun patch Never Ending I can't work out how the notes have been programmed or how to change them, or how to disable the sequence playing altogether. I mean it's obviously in the MSEG, triggered by a red line, but I can't access it to manipulate it.
In that patch MSEG 1 is modulating the pitch of OSC 1. The modulation amount is 12.

At the same time the volume is being modulated by MSEG 2 which effectively gives you note lengths

It also confused me because if you click on the OSC1 page you don't see the MSEG 1 pitch modulation but you do see the volume modulation. You can only see it in the actual osc1 panel in the synth where MSEG1 is assigned via the modulation slot.

It seems like slot based modulation doesn't appear in the OSC1 page. To my mind it should.
Where are you seeing the modulation amount of 12 and how is that assigned? MSEG 1 isn't in the mod matrix and I can't see where I can alter the depth. MSEG 1 is on the OSC itself but there's no way there to alter the mod amount.
Yeah. This is the part that confused me too.

In that patch if you look at the oscillator panel in the main section of the synth (Not the osc1 Tab at the bottom) underneath tune you'll see MSEG1 in the mod slot. To the left of that is a widget (Two vertical arrows facing opposite directions). That controls the depth of the modulation in the slot. If you adjust it you'll see that it's set to 12.

That was the point I was making above. Those slot modulations should appear as modulators in the OSC tab at the bottom.

One thing I did notice is that if I modulate the tune control by dragging from the MSEG node to the tuning knob then the pitch is not scaled correctly but it is on the mod slot. It could be that the slot modulation is scaled logarithmically or something like the Mel scale so it conforms to pitch.

I checked the manual and didn't see anything on this:

Can we PLEASE get an alt/opt modifier key like Serum/Vital/Phase Plant to temporarily disable Grid Snap XY for the oscillators/MSEGs?

I know you can just click the grid snap button in the editor to disable snapping but being able to go back and forth between on and off with a modifier key is such an engrained workflow for me (and probably others).

I really like the ID Card license, idea. Plogue, has been using this kind if license, for sometime. It's really easy to use!
Also, just to clarify, how long do you have to own Zebra Legacy, to get the free / or discounded upgrade, to Zebra 3?
I believe this has been explainde but I've lost the post about that, sorry.

Thank you Urs and team for the public beta release. It must be a relief for you and the start of a somewhat anxious time with feedback from users. Zebra3 sounds amazing so far on MacOS (ARM). It had my jaw dropping on some of the presets, and I only got as far as "A". The UX using the new UI is a significant improvement from Z2. My workflow is faster and more intuitive in Zebra3 now.
Some glitches in the UI with inconsistent scrolling behaviour on the module panels; sometimes the mouse movement is not captured quickly when the mouse is refocused from the left panel to the right panel.
BTW: How do you want us to reply on bugs? We would not like to repeat the same bug report over again, so the list you provided is a good start. Will you update that list to help us prevent repetition? Or will there be a more formalized bug reporting structure on the forum?
