And again to someone who is asking when 6 is out. Next year. Company that exploit this form of license (subscription plus) does not have any interest to rush updates. Rather deliberately stagnate. And next year release will align with wide speculation that they are moving towards one update per year. As 6 will be released 12 month after last. Bingo!
Anyway! Bye!
Well if you want a new release every few months, consider FL Studio and give it a try. Just dont complain when its half baked and buggy AF! Them releasing stuff as fast as possible is why I switched to Bitwig. I need something that is reliable, not something that crashes and I end up having to spend the rest of the day trying to fix and go back and rework all that I already put in. But hey, you do you boo..

But it's not a subscription. You don't have to pay money regularly to receive the product. Plus, if you are aware that the updates occur as they do, why complain? I agree fully with AtomicOverdrive. Reliable software is one of the most important things, and I find Bitwig to be rock solid; and I have been through a ton of daws.

there are a stupid number of bugs in bitwig... not many game breakers tho.

Frequent updates are a very good thing. Reaper releases a new minor version every few weeks and is likely *the* most stable DAW, has been for years, and this is a big part of why. Bugs are continuously found by the dev team and fixed.

True. If that person wants a lifetime free update cycle he should go for FL Studio or stay a version or 2 behind 100% free by using Tracktion Waveform where older versions are free to use :)

I am staying with Bitwig since i still have 2 years left of updates and i like how well it works in Linux.

idk what the deal is but bitwig has become completely unusable for me. constant crashing, and now its just basically completely f**ked. its probably a problem on my end but it never has been this bad before.

Maybe it is a configuration file gone bad or a cache or Index file that is hanging in the background that is causing it?

I had a weird issue about a year ago where i saw that the working circle in the top right of the screen was constantly working and re-indexing after i updated from V 4.4 to 4.5 and i had to delete all the cache and index files in those folders to get it to behave normally again.

Yeah. I fixed it by doing this:

(Windows)
I copied current Templates, Presets to a folder on my desktop.
I did a full uninstall of all Bitwig versions with Add Or Remove Programs
I deleted everything in Documents/Bitwig, User/_your_user_name_/AppData/Local
I re-installed Bitwig version 5
I ran Bitwig and let it re-index everything
I copied Templates and Presets back into the Documents/Bitwig folder
I remade all my shortcuts

Working like new now. Well worth the effort and really should have just done that ages ago. Would have probably saved me days worth of time spent closing and reoping shit over and over.

That is great to hear :tu:

They need something that can detect this hanging and offer to clear the cache and reindex. I've had that a couple of times and it's not great...

How is stability in latest MacOS on Silicon processors?

I agree.
So far our only option is to watch the work wheel on the top right when we encounter any issues and manually find the right folders to delete the files.

I have noticed that Caches and the index is adding a lot of numbers after the name after using Bitwig for a while and it changes every time you save the same song instead of keeping the same name in the Cache and index when you use it's built in Instruments and effects and I have encountered issues where Windows can't even delete the files because it doesn't support the long file name when it happens.

So i guess it is the naming for each new saves that get so long that the OS can't read the files anymore and ends up setting Bitwig into a infinite loop.

There's a file that holds all your shortcuts. I don't remember where it is located. If you find it, next time you have to do the reset, you can skip this step.

Edit: The folder is called ''keyboard-shortcuts'' and it is located in user/'username'/appdata/local/Bitwig Studio on Windows.

Double post sorry! It will not happen again.

Thanks to the team for putting in a slider option for Arranger View volume! (Didn't realize this made it into v8). My OCD thanks you as well
