What's going on with the Behringer 8906? It does not sound like it was recorded in an anechoic chamber! Makes me a bit suspicious of the whole thing, how the mics were profiled...do you know if the is just an EQ adjustment curve (with correction for the source mic) or is there other stuff going on?

It may just be the vid/demo, I don't have that on this rig. There is a much fuller description the processing involved over on Gearspace and likely on the melda website, and yes it's more than an eq curve.../s~

Thanks - of course, it may just be that mic/profile heavily brings out the room tones of where Chandler was recording, too. I'll check the other page for more about the process.
EDIT: Looks like on GS the consensus is that it is basically EQ matching, yes.

I messed around with it a bit... was not really impressed. None of the modeled mics match my experience with them. I have had much better results with MMatcher, which I assume this is based on. For instance, I set up an Aston Element alongside an SDC condenser I have set up as a dedicated OH mic I have on my drum kit, then used MMatcher to get the the Element to approximate the freq response of the SDC. Results were very good with the smoothing set to around 1-3%. Using MMicSim on the Element set up the same way does not at all give a similar result. Did similar tests on a guitar amp - also unimpressed.
Would be great to see the algorithms from MMicSim available in MMatcher, instead of the dumbed down interface they offer. Some kind of utility to flatten the response of a mic curve not available in MicSim, then apply the Melda anechoic algorithms, would take away the frustration at not having one of the available mics. Also there is no documentation as of yet for MicSim (typical for melda :-/), so the "average" function is unclear.

considering the price and tolerances of behringer gear, it's possible that mic has it's own unexpected internal resonances. It's also possible the mic they used was damaged. also, It's not really clear at what distance etc they captured these mics, so the amount of proximity effect is a mystery. Would be nice if they did multiple captures of the mics at different angles/distances/etc, then gave us a virtual mic environment like many IR loaders do.tonycore wrote: Sat Dec 13, 2025 5:00 pm What's going on with the Behringer 8906? i looked on GS and didnt see this description you speak of anywhere. There was nothing on the melda site either as of friday.steve2KVR wrote: Sat Dec 13, 2025 6:01 pm It may just be the vid/demo, I don't have that on this rig.
