sorry, but that's nonsense in some cases

(as if I had the time...not to mention improvisations)
exactly :)
improvisation is always on a kind of 'alterned takes'
basis ;)
you record a bunch of times and select what you feel the best...
oh and i often record drum beats with my pinky fingers :D

Maybe it would be best to have the option between merging and not merging.... :-o

What do you mean?
The picture they show has recording inputs on more than two tracks at a time! Surely they don't expect us to record the exact same thing on 6 tracks at the same time... and so it follows that T2 almost certainly has true multi-track recording.
Er, you've always been able to record more than two inputs simultaneously.
He's right. :D

You could even record some inputs at 16 bit while recording others at 24.. and also set up other inputs to be monitored through T but not recorded. 8)

This feature adds a level of convenience in situations with large numbers of inputs to deal with, but no real new functionality as such..
SMACKS FOREHEAD!

Aww man... I have an RME Multiface with 8 inputs, and when that card was selected in the settings panel Tracktion always defaulted to only inputs 1 and 2, which says to me "you can only use two inputs at a time"; I just always assumed the others couldn't be used! Now I see I can click and activate them... SHEESH!

Man, I could swear I have heard others talk about this "limitation" in the past. Coulda sworn I saw it as a feature request too...

Well f**k it, I certainly don't need Tracktion 2 now. I was waiting for this feature only! Hey, T2 comes today for Lava!

(Thanks for noticing disclaimers 1 and 2, which I'm sure saved me from flames) :D.

Jens, why argue with the converted? For crying out loud... read what's already been posted.

I know you're kidding, but in all reality, I've been playing the piano for over 13 years in a serious form(tinkered around before that) and feel that I've come a long way, to the point of being advanced. But it can still take me a few tries to get something right. Even something simple. It usually is because I try to make it more complicated than it is.

Also, it doesn't matter how many times you play something, it always sounds different from take to take. So I can see the advantage of this feature, even for those who CAN play.

I earned the studio nickname 'one-take johnny'

but in reality, sometimes it took 2 takes

The punch-in/out never worked right in Tracktion.

Really? Works for me just fine...
This is how punch-in/out worked in traditional set up.
Let's say you record a guitar solo but you missed one note (off key).
You will highlight that one section where the note is back up a little and activate the punch recording.
While the track is playing you can hear both the original and the live guitar but the live guitar is not being recorded until the punch in point.
When you reach the punch in point the recorded guitar gets muted and only the live guitar is heard.
The live guitar is being recorded and it replaces the the punch area but only until you reach the punch out point.
At the punch out point the recorded guitar comes back, you can still hear the live guitar but it's not being recorded after the punch out point.
As far as I know this is currently not available in Tracktion.

Am I wrong?

No.

Meanwhile it wouldn't take long to split the clip and slip edit the joins to the punch in / out points..
