I just got Diva on the Black Friday deal and I'm a bit disappointed to find it systematically crashes Reaper as soon as it's loaded. I'm running Reaper in Ubuntu Studio 24.04 with Plasma X11. Here is the output when I run it from the terminal:

The same thing happens with Tyrell N6, but ZebraCM and BazilleCM both work fine.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I’m not associated with u-he but am a software developer- the key seems to be the locale- what language, country and keyboard settings are you using in your OS/desktop environment?

Thanks for your help. I have UK English Extended (UK keyboard layout with extension for accents on letters because I also write in Italian).

Update: so I disabled the extended keyboard layout and that didn't make any difference. Now everything is configured as standard for UK. I got the Windows version running in Wine, but of course that is not really what I want....

Hi,

I just spotted another post from 'fllr' in the U-he LInux forum about a crash with Satin and Presswerk that has the same error message you get with Diva and Tyrell. They are also running Ubuntu Studio 24.03.

The last few lines of their error log is the same as yours.

Code: Select all

Running View with AudioMan access.
AM_ViewMan::initialize
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
  what():  locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid
Aborted (core dumped)
I can't offer you much in the way of help here (I'm not a Linux expert, and I don't work for U-he), but after a quick search for "terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
what(): locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid" there are several hits where other folks have had the same problem using completely different software.

For example: https://forum.sinusbot.com/kb/i-get-an- ... do-i-do.23 - which mentions that on some Debian based distros, the locales are not fully generated. There is a possible solution in that post, but be sure to change the locale to the one you need before trying this.

Maybe also reach out to U-he support and mention that you are both having what looks like the same issue on the same OS.

For what it's worth, I just finished installing all U-he plugins on a new Debian Trixie / KDE build (6.12 kernel) yesterday. All plugins are working in both Reaper and Bitwig, in a KDE Wayland session with Pipewire as the audio server.

The most common thing that instantly kills plugins is running out of memory. Have you configured your realtime privileges and memlimits? I know it's not directly related to your error log, but it's something to consider.
