Dual Guitar IR Going Crazy?

NB: I need to spend more time digging into this myself.

Last night I was looking for ways to tame a harsh edge on a solo guitar track and started playing with the Dual Guitar IR plugin for the first time. When it loaded neither channel indicated any IR being loaded but even starting with that default and playing with the parameters I was able to get the kind of taming I was looking for, plus some pleasant width expansion of the sound.

BUT: when I more-or-less accidentally selected an IR while poking around, all of a sudden things got out of control, with the track going into clipping and some pretty ugly sounds coming out of my monitors. I couldn't find any way to get back to where I started other than to delete the plugin and then add it back in.

Has anyone experienced similar with the guitar IR plugins? Any advice on taking maximum advantage of these?

Please, give information about what are your PC specs, what audio driver, audio interface and Operating system, to have a more specific idea what's the issue.

It's pretty basic, and without envelopes it has quite limited usefulness. The delay between sides and the width control can add some nice stereo width, even without loading an ir. The only way I could imagine the crazy peaking you're describing would be a bad combination of ir, filter with high q and source material. The fact you couldn't get it back under control and had to delete the plugin sounds like a bug of some sort, but not enough info to try and repeat it here.
