issue with Tracktion audio editing

Maybe it's me, im not sure yet ;)

Im looping clips. When I choose to loop a clip, it creates one giant clip. Is there a way around this? It should not work like this. 4 new looped clips should each be individual clips. Yo ushouldnt have to go and splice everything up again to move stuff around.

Also, im noticing that when I create small unused edits, you simply cant delete them. Even though the mouse pointer is smack in the middle of the small clip, you cant bring up the delete option. IT;s very time consuming.

Also, copy and paste. Im trying to copy a clip and paste it in another area in the same track. I right click on the clip, select copy, but when I go further down the same track and right or left click, there is simply no option for me to put that where I want it. Looping the clip and moving it wont work because Tracktion creates one big giant file instead of smaller loops.

This is quite frustrating. The Audition way is far superior at least for audio. Much quicker.

Make sure you only have the clip selected that you want to copy/loop. Say you have a drum loop you want to loop - bring it in to Tracktion, select it, key Ctrl+C (Copy), then Ctrl+V (Paste) for as many measures as you need. They will show up as seperate clips. You should be able to use the keystrokes Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to copy and paste anywhere as needed. Just make sure you have selected just the clip/clips you want to work with.

no, that's just the way tracktions looping works. Copy+pasting has always worked much better for me.

Thanks. This is a little puzzling to me. So instead of just two quick clicks of the mouse, I have to look down and do a ctrl V and C? Wouldn't it be easier just to offer functionality with a right click so one never has to remove their eyes from that track?

wil the paste be set at where the lin marker is, or just auto next to the existing clip? Thx.

Ok. Puzzling. Adding a loop function and a paste function by right clicking on any section of the track would indeed be an upgrade in speed and flexibility.

Wow man you must not do a lot of editing or something. Anybody with experience with computer apps is used to Control-C, Control-V. Its extremely standard. Its even faster than right clicking, sub-menu copy, right clicking again, sub-menu paste. I can definitely do it without looking at my keyboard. Also you can can control-drag a clip to copy it aswell.

After you control-C, control-V, the clip will be placed next to the clip you just copied. Making it very fast to make a series of loops. You can even hold down control-V and it will keep pasting duplicates one after another until you let go.

For in line audio edting the right click, paste is indeed faster. It is implemented very well in the industry standard Adobe Audition and Sound Forge.

right click on a clip, select paste , move pointer to where you want next clip, right clck and hit paste. Simple, fast.

Want to loop? right click clip, select loopd 4,6,8,or 10x. click. done. It should also make each section a seperate clip. This makes it easier to punch out each clip for loop based composition as well.

Having to look down at the "loop this clip button" off of track view, and to perform multi key strokes off of track view IMHO does not fit in line with Tracktions workflow focus.

Of course, just my opinion. As of now the loop feature of making looped clips one big clip is a flaw.

And for my tastes, Tracktion is not a "standard" app. That's why im surprised ctrl-c and v is used for a function as flow dependent as paste and loop.

Copy paste would be faster for this.

The problem is you're not zoomed in enough. A quick flick of the mouse wheele will zoom in so you can see the clips and it will let you bring up the delete options etc. This takes a fraction of a second.

Control-drag will create a duplicate and let you drag it to whatever place you want.

Not really. It does take a bit of time and again makes editing audio a bit more of a hassle than it should be. Narrow clips should be able to be removed if you can fit the mouse pointer tip in them without the need for scrolling - just like in Audition, Sonar, Soundforge, etc.

Thanks. Will this let my flow past other clips down the line?

I dont think so. I'll race you with my control-C, control-V, control drag, and beat you ever time. :)

I dont have to look at my keyboard to control-C, Control-V. Its a comon command I use in almost every app.

I have now. I have used AE for forever ( cool edit pro) and it just did things differently( or I just chose a different route in it).

Yeah, I actually always found it weird that AA uses right click to move clips (by default I think). And control-right-click-drag to create new copies. But I got used to it pretty quick. CoolEdit aka AA is still my favorite editor  .
