I think The Eighty is the best instrument. There is plenty of selection for it by now, though.

I went to see Underworld last week in Sydney for the first time. I think Karl Hyde is about 68 years old - big respect! It was an excellent gig (if a little short).Uncle E wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 8:00 pm Sure, they're definitely using alternatives live. There are plenty of synths that could get close enough for live, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're simply performing with pre-recorded tracks. I'm surprised to see that Underworld is still touring!

Gotcha, I'm going to have to check it out. They're all on sale coincidentally. They all sound great in their own way. Never thought I would consider getting them all, but sounds fun to utilize them all...Uncle E wrote: Thu Jan 01, 2026 4:49 amModel 77 is warmer than The Eighty. IMO, The Eighty is better for those bright, brassy Vangelis sounds, and Model 77 is better for the smooth, warm Toto sounds.twal wrote: Thu Jan 01, 2026 1:18 am If I were to demo The Eighty, I would imagine it would be warmer than the Cherry and Arturia ones because of its reputation, so it would probably shoot up to probably second.
You mentioned how you love Atomika and Pro Soloist. I remember enjoying those two a lot as well, and I need to revisit those when on a good sale, very underrated right now.BONES wrote: Thu Jan 01, 2026 4:56 amTo be fair, my opinion of the Korg Arp 2600 is heavily influenced by the fact it has a modelled SEM filter as an extra treat. I don't think I've ever even installed the Arturia one, even though I've had a license for the V Collection for ages.twal wrote: Tue Dec 09, 2025 6:38 pmPerhaps the Korg sounds better a la Bones, which I never have heard; and I love the Arturia one's sound.
Of course the Oberheim stuff by GForce is top of the line. Same tastes in a lot of ways. I say that because Arturia is really good with the CS-80 V and the Arp 2600 V or whatever it's called is great sounding, albeit for probably different reasons than the Korg one...

Yes, I own both The Eighty and Model 77 for that reason. I also own the Sound Paint one, which I mostly regret buying, although it’s been useful for checking the other ones against.

I decided I wanted to wait until today to get the Model 77 if I were, and the sale is done. Didn't feel like making a purchase on New Year's Eve but I'm fine for waiting on the Model 77 especially since I'm checking out Flow sub.Uncle E wrote: Thu Jan 01, 2026 3:34 pm Yes, I own both The Eighty and Model 77 for that reason. Did you ever get around to checking out the Memorymoon one? Someone in the thread swore by it and it's the same price as the discounted Model 77.

Memorymoon is Windows only, unfortunately.

Very unfortunately. It’s my favorite cs-80. I have model 77 and Arturia. Used to be on windows but now Mac so no more memorymoon.

I'll check out the Memorymoon even though it's an older emulation.
Demoed The Eighty side by side with the others, it sounds amazing. Equally or better than the Model 77. Model 77's warmth is undeniable but The Eighty's brilliance is superb. I would have to say overall I prefer The Eighty which I thought Model 77 would be hard to beat- still love Model though it's very impressive in its own right and one of the best soft synths I've ever heard. I do like them all for different reasons but the expression of The Eighty is just mind blowing. Model's UI is easiest, but I prefer The Eighty's over Arturia's and Cherry's. As much as people hate the browser on The Eighty I do not like Softube's. It's to the upper right so far to the left it is at the very edge of the window; and after you click it you input the 'type' of sound you want (maybe another way to browse categories and I'm doing it wrong) and it just looks messy to me. I also prefer up and down arrows rather than left to right. Xils' is also towards the middle of the browser where I prefer and the old school browsing experience never bothered me. Minor complaints. Just exhausting my impression and I didn't mention this aspect in the other post. I also love the third osc, the x-y pad, and the idea of having an arp (haven't tried the arp but any addition is nice and extra). Seems like they really put a lot of heart into this and are proud of the instrument. Anyways, I still like all of the others but I am incredibly pleased with The Eighty overall. Memorymoon is cheaper still, so may add that one first. Anyways, just my modest review.
I've always loved the CS-80 emulations. The first time I played with CS-80 V that came with V Collection several years ago it had some of the best sounding architecture to me. A couple of others stood out to me as well. I say this as I had no idea or experience of analog hardware and 0 experience with software emulations as well. Some say they don't care for the sound and it was designed for playing, not sound quality or whatever the reason they say. To me it always had a nice character.

Once you've chosen your preferred plugin version, you could add another 500 bucks to your bill and get one of these:

Still a whole lot cheaper than actual CS-80

Oh my, another one! Cool, checking it out. It's free. Sounds good!
Might get that controller in the future someday down the road Thanks for pointing that out. Can complete any morbid obsession with the CS.

Or maybe use the Behringer clone as a controller (if it ever comes out).

They're taking their time on EMS VCS3 which is the most anticipated of any synthUncle E wrote: Sat Jan 03, 2026 6:51 pm Or maybe use the Behringer clone as a controller (if it ever comes out).

Unlikely the Behringer will be fully midified IMO, adds to the cost
