I know that many don't care about these OS percentages, but developers do, when it tells them where to direct their development.
Don't see many devs doing those polls tho...

There's been a couple. Also, I didn't have to run a poll one year, because a developer beat me to it. Either way, it doesn't hurt anything, and those of us who are interested like to see the change from year to year.

(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

My point before is that a big dev offering products on multiple platforms already has a pretty good idea percentage-wise by looking at their own sales figures. Yes, not everyone buys a given dev’s products but it’s a pretty good guesstimate of current OS market shares.

As for the poll, seems an OK idea to me and it’s a pity Ben accidentally deleted it. I don’t think it warrants multiple support threads in other sub-forums but that’s just my opinion.

heh

it seems pretty clear such a poll isn't representative of a community unless all its members care to participate. If Linux shows a competitive number with the two usual platforms it must mean Linux users care more/want to be seen. You have to have a different set of priorities than being particularly serious about music production to want to go there (IE: "it aligns more with my ethical values"), you're eliminating too many options and management of will consume more time. I'm not dissing anyone for their choice, I couldn't care less but let's be real.
