Touches my Windows 10 last time in 3/2025, it only runs offline but i do not work on it.
MX Linux in da House after 5-6 attempt over the last 10 years and finally switching to Linux
Now i am baffled how good this is running.

Sure:
- i got lesser Plugins, but this is okay, its not that less, market is still growing
- i do not choose the OS for DAW, i choose Linux because Windows can suck himself (force MS Account for Security Support, TPM, Online, Telemetry, Speed). Well i did not feel this isues in W10, it worked all good, no issues at all. But the nono's outweight.
The Linux community has barely managed to create a Linux that is as easy to use as Windows for those switching over, which is very bad. The stubbornness of the community in the forums is still noticeable. Learning curve still relatively steep.

i can make music on it. :)

Who is "we" if you don't mind me asking?

Also I find your constant spamming to be a nuisance, even though I use Linux myself for LAMP Stack back end server work.

While we are at it, I also find your constant one liner comments in any new VST thread to be extremely tiresome as well. If they support Linux, you thank them for this, if they don't, then you ask them to consider it. All reasonable positions and comments, I know. We get your passion, and even tolerate your OCD for Linux.

But it seems tonight (or this morning, depending where you are), you have overstepped the mark. There are like 4 threads all asking the same question here.

I'm not someone that reports anyone for anything, but I would ask you to reconsider your position if you want to be an ambassador for Linux.

This is SPAM, and other people get banned for it. You help a Linux brother out and so your behavior is tolerated. But pushing it at this level is just too much. I would understand if you got banned for what you have done. I don't want to see you banned as I find your Linux knowledge to be very good and apt and on point most the time.

Perhaps you might consider dialing it back a notch so we can all trundle on with what we are doing with whatever OS, and you can remain around in the future for those of us that actually need Linux help.

I get that your are passionate, but it's all getting a bit weird now.

Everyone loves a brother that helps another brother out on Kvr, and you are most certainly one of them, but SPAMMERS get short shrift here, and that is what you have become.

Please, just take it down a notch if you can. Your message is still getting through.

In fact, it may be having a negative effect. I just spent several weeks setting up a Linux box to use specifically for audio, but I'm not going to do that now. Just one more Linux evangelist too many, again.

I have other stuff to get on with. Linux is supposed to be fun. At least for music making. Your one man army brow-beating on this subject is just counter productive by this point I feel. No offense meant. I do appreciate your efforts to the cause.

4 threads on what OS you use is just SPAM.

Oh, and I'd still like to know who "We" are, if its not too much trouble to answer that question.

MacOs.

It's the only OS I have available on my power machine currently.

Also got this old sluggish (I think) Win10 laptop, might be tempted to install Mint or AV Linux on it, if I can get it to dual boot. Seems simple enough. Just for giggles. That project might go the same route as with OS/2 Warp I tried 30 years ago: after toying around a week to get it up & running, realise there's no software I can't run on another OS, and then it only collects dust.

I merged all the duplicate topics and it destroyed the poll for some reason :(

Sorry about that. Please repost the poll but keep it to one topic.

Goes to show how reliable polls are, lol

Seriously though, I don't think there's any real way to measure this accurately. Here on KVR you might say, well we can possibly measure use by musicians, but still, what musicians? Are we talking just desktop OS, or also mobile? ... It's gets real tricky

Erm, has the poll been closed?

Never mind, i'm too late posting.

Am I the only person on this forum who gives exactly zero f***s about the OS anybody else uses? Maybe that can be a poll?

Personally I don't care what anyone else specifically is using.

But we don't want developers saying "I use iBarf and I don't know anyone who uses PukeOS, so I'm going to only support iBarf" when PukeOS has 70% market share or whatever.

Post

I dont think the few members who bother to vote here give devs a great deal of accurate data about which OS's are being used.

Most devs aim to cover as many as possible anyway to a certain point, usually via the beta team.
How original

Rich Synapse or Urs could give us better info if they shared their sales breakdown by OS share, accurate current usage.

A sales breakdown by OS only shows the breakdown of the sales of a certain product (or products). There are lots of people that may not like a certain product. This would only work if the majority of forum users had purchased the product(s).

I know that everyone thinks I'm spamming the board, but the key to a poll like this is to get as many people to vote as possible. The more people that vote, the better the representation there is. And the better representation there is, the more accurate the percentages would be.

A better solution would be if KVR did the poll themselves, and had an announcement similar to the yearly awards voting. Then there would be no need to make multiple threads to inform as many people as possible to vote.

I know that many don't care about these OS percentages, but developers do, when it tells them where to direct their development. Admittedly, I'm a Linux user, so I have been pleased to see constant, steady Linux growth year after year. I find this information interesting, and so do many others that have let me know that they appreciate the poll.

But, after all that happened this time, I've lost the desire to redo this poll this year. I had only created the original poll, and had 3 other posts in the other three most popular sub forums. Apparently that's all that takes for people to get up in arms about it. I've always tried to do this around Dec/Jan, and I've never pushed for poll votes or run the poll longer than a set number of days. I've tried to take in all of the good suggestions that have been made, so that I can improve the quality of the poll. I've really tried to get this information without being a forum nuisance. But apparently even thanking a developer for asking for Linux support bothers some users....

So, while I feel my intentions were not bad, I have been disheartened with the effort.

None of this was really directed to you, btw. Once I started typing, it all just sort of came out. Please don't take it personally. :)
