Hey folks,
I built a controller script for Bitwig that generates melodies from simple input notes. Thought some of you might find it useful.
Basically you drop a chord or a few notes into a clip, hit analyze, and it creates melodies that stay in key using different algorithms – Stepwise for smooth lines, Leaping for bigger intervals, Arched phrases, Cascade runs, that kind of stuff. It detects the scale automatically and writes real MIDI notes into your clip, so you can edit everything afterwards.
There's a bunch of genre categories (Jazz, Classical, Techno, Trance, DnB, Ambient, Blues, Folk...) with presets for each. Also a variation knob that goes from deterministic to more random while keeping the pattern character.
Works well together with arpeggiators – same input notes on different tracks give you layered results.

Happy to answer questions if anyone wants to know more about how it works!

What is the technology this is running on? Is it machine learning, LLM?

No. Only mathematics and music theory.

Thanks for the reply and for clarifying. Too much slop out there lately, and I think its important for people to know.

I know exactly what you mean. Lately a lot of low quality work is being pushed under the banner of AI and it creates a lot of confusion. As soon as someone says the word generator people immediately assume AI or that musicians are no longer doing the work themselves. With tools like the one I developed it is really about solid mathematics and music theory and about providing a useful tool that supports the creative process. It is not about replacing musicians or hiding sloppy results behind a buzzword. Thanks for pointing this out and for helping keep that distinction clear.

This is true. Ive been in tech a loooong time, and one of the most frustrating things about all this, for me, is how things that are NOT "AI/LLM" are labeled AI or "generative" because those brands think those buzzwords will sell more products. This adds chaos to an already chaotic situation.Frank_GianaBrotherz wrote: Mon Jan 12, 2026 7:19 pm I know exactly what you mean. Its the same thing that happened with "HD" and words like "cyber" once upon a time -- you just add HD+++ or cyber* to something(in 2005), and its automatically more appealing to a bunch of people who dont quite understand the tech.

Yeah, that's a good point. The "AI washing" wave is everywhere right now, especially in the audio world. Sonible is actually one of the few examples where real machine learning is at the core. They were doing this before it was cool, with their spectral processing and the smart: plugins.
What also annoys me: many "AI Mastering" services or "AI Mixing Assistants" are basically glorified presets with a bit of dynamic adjustment. No neural network, no training, no inference. Just clever DSP algorithms that have existed for 20 years, now slapped with an AI label.
iZotope has been doing interesting things with machine learning for a while (Dialogue Isolate, Music Rebalance), but even there the line between "real ML" and "very good traditional DSP" is sometimes blurry.
The HD+++ thing is a perfect example. Or "Quantum" for processors. Or "Neural" for guitar amp sims, though at least some of those (Neural DSP, NAM) actually do train models.

It’s only a question of time until AI reaches incredible levels of opportunity to generate VST of epic proportions. There’s no going back. Still, it’s excellent to have products like yours. Thank you

That is simply not true. "VST of epic proportions" already exist, and there is no plagiarized "AI" garbage that will ever compare. Mark my words.
When you do even a small amount of research (investor data, including expert analysis, current data) into the current state of the tech, you realize its one of the biggest grifts to ever occur within these economies, and investors want you to think "its inevitable" like they want you to believe we are about to colonize mars.

Looks amazing, thank you!
I've downloaded the raw file off github, put it in \Documents\Bitwig Studio\Controller Scripts\ but it doesn't appear in the ADD CONTROLLER list in Bitwig6

Hey kujoi, glad you want to try it!kujoi wrote: Mon Apr 20, 2026 8:51 am Looks amazing, thank you!
I've downloaded the raw file off github, put it in \Documents\Bitwig Studio\Controller Scripts\ but it doesn't appear in the list ADD CONTROLLER list in Bitwig6
A couple of things that could be the issue:
1. Did you download both files? The script is split into two files that need to sit next to each other:
- MelodyMachine.control.js (the main script)
- MelodyMachine_Presets.js (the preset library)
If you only have the first one, Bitwig silently fails to load it because the script internally does load("MelodyMachine_Presets.js") and can't find the companion file.
Make sure both are in your Controller Scripts folder.
2. Where to look in Bitwig's Add Controller dialog. The controller is registered under the vendor name "GianaBrotherz", so in the "Add Controller…" dropdown, scroll to
GianaBrotherz → MelodyMachine. It won't appear under "Frank Hahn" or "Melody Machine".
3. Recommended folder layout (not strictly required, but cleaner): put both files in a subfolder:
Documents/Bitwig Studio/Controller Scripts/GianaBrotherz/MelodyMachine/
├── MelodyMachine.control.js
└── MelodyMachine_Presets.js
3. Bitwig scans recursively, so this works too.
4. Restart Bitwig after dropping the files in — Bitwig doesn't hot-reload controller scripts.
Also — where did you grab the file from? It should be the full set from my Patreon. If you only got the .control.js, something went wrong in the download. Let me know
and I'll help you sort it out.
Best,
Frank

Oops my bad, I installed MELODY MAKER in BW6 but no workee: https://github.com/polarity/polarity-mu ... lerScripts
It's MELODY *MACHINE*, duh
Patreon sent me a 60% off coupon valid for a few days, I've never subscribed there, so I can download all your scripts for a few bucks basically?
I compose rubadub roots reggae, not dance music but I think this could still work

Hey, no worries, Melody Maker vs Melody Machine is a classic mixup (my own fault for the naming, haha).
And yes, that Patreon deal is basically a no-brainer: if you subscribe once, you can download every single script I've ever posted there. Screech Pattern Generator, Melody Machine, the V9/V8 drum pattern scripts, the whole lot. Nothing is locked per tier or behind extra paywalls. Grab the month, pull everything you want, cancel right after if you don't want to keep supporting. Patreon lets you do that without any hassle, so with the 60% coupon you basically get the full stash for a few bucks. Totally fair use of the offer, I'd do the same in your position
And don't worry about the reggae angle. The scripts don't care about genre, they just spit out MIDI. Melody Machine especially is pretty tonal and works nicely with slower tempos and dub-style phrasing. Screech is the one that's more techno/hardstyle-specific, but even that can be fun when you slow it down and run it through tape saturation or a spring reverb for some weird dub effects. Let me know how it goes, always curious to hear what people do with the scripts outside the usual dance music corner.
Cheers,
Frank

Awesome thanks, I just signed up to your patreon and did install that script properly this time around. Haven't figured out yet how to invoke it and then make it bake into the piano-roll but I'll be sure to watch your yt videos then, as user manual doesn't explain this.
Do I even need MELODY MAKER then? How to install/invoke it? Copying in the scripts folder wasn't enough as it would appear.
BTW, I see you like to make yt videos about equivalents of LIVE in BW, I kinda miss the "SUB" button in ABLETON PEDAL plugin, it was overpowering right before feeding BOD VSTFX(sansamp emulation) on my reggae sub-bass but I kinda liked it and I still sort of miss it:

IME Live has a built-in syrupy house sound, even though I used tons of AUDIO ROUTES everywhere to make up for the laughable PDC huh....and I think this "SUB" button was also part of it(together with the cheap EQ8 even in HiQ), I've sorta replaced it by SUBHOOFER(free VSTFX). More versatile, less colored but I still miss that magical SUB button

Hey, first off thanks for jumping on the Patreon, much appreciated!
Quick clarification: the script you just installed IS Melody Maker. The actual name is Melody Machine v2.2, sounds like the names got mixed up somewhere. Same tool, you don't need anything additional.
For the manual: you can download it from the same Patreon post where you got the script, the PDF is right there. Have a look at it once, it covers everything below in more detail.
Two things worth double checking on installation: both files need to land in the same folder (MelodyMachine.control.js and MelodyMachine_Presets.js), and the folder name has to be exactly GianaBrotherz, no space. Full path is ~/Documents/Bitwig Studio/Controller Scripts/GianaBrotherz/ on macOS, or Documents\Bitwig Studio\Controller Scripts\GianaBrotherz\ on Windows.
In Bitwig: Dashboard, Settings, Controllers, Add Controller (manual entry), Vendor GianaBrotherz, Product MelodyMachine. Once added, the script panel pops up in the top right of Bitwig exactly like you see in the video. From there drop a chord or a few notes into a clip, hit Analyze first, then Generate. Real MIDI notes get baked directly into the clip and you can edit them like any other notes.
Video again for reference:
If anything is still acting up after that, just message me directly on Patreon, happy to help you sort it out one on one.
On the Pedal SUB button thing: yeah, I know exactly what you mean. That cartoonish lower octave doubler glued onto basses in a way nothing else really does. SUBHOOFER is the cleanest free replacement, but if you want that overpowering quality back, try a dedicated sub octave generator into a soft saturator before BOD, gets you closer than any EQ trick. And yes, Live's syrupy house tone is real, you're not imagining it.
Cheers,
Frank
