It sounds strange to me. Just strange. And definitely not "analog". I mean it can produce similar sounds, but it doesn´t satisfy me.

I have read this opinion several times already by the way.

I'm in the same camp of not being satisfied by the sound of Diva. I demoed it when it was released, and I demoed it again during the recent sale. Repro sounds good to me though. A Diva 2 on the level of Repro could be interesting.

That's a cheeky way to look at it.

I'm feeling a little behind today.

My only problem with Diva besides the modification is the included set of models. You can't really go wild with them because they're a bit neutral (except the JP osc and MS20 filters). I'd like to see more aggressive stuff like the Wasp filter for example.

It's actually quite easy all you need is a USB interface with a few inputs and MIDI. Most ITB electronic producers only use the outputs in their interface and never touch the inputs

The Pro800 is a tiny desk top synth. You would just send it MIDI from Cubase just like you do with a plugin, and send the audio from the synth into the interface and then a channel and then treat it just like a plugin

Cubase makes this particularly easy as they have dedicated instrument tracks that you can save as presets by going to Studio > Audio Connections, select the External Instruments

Beyond that the PRO800 can save presets and recall them over MIDI from your DAW, and the PRO800 can also be edited and controlled via CCs so Cubase can sequence just about anything

I don't dislike it, it's still amazing for an all-in-one type of analog modeled synth, but using dedicated plugins that emulate a specific synth will get you better results. I mainly like Roland's offering for accurate analog models.

Who cares, nor will I.

Getting 10 years of use for 250 is a bargain imo.

I may have already posted in this thread long ago, but I find DIVA to be a very nice analog modeled poly synth. It covers the more tame style analog sounds quite well. I'd love to see way more gain adjustment for interesting distortion like you can do in ace and bazille and zebra. What it does it does quite well. I barely used it when I forgot it due to the CPU consumption, but now I use it quite often for pads and chords and solid up front bass.

I guess my impression of the sound of Diva was always that it is on the side of dark/dull/bland, like it is leaning in the direction of analog but too inhibited to get there. It's a quality that I don't hear in Repro, which is why I said before that a Diva 2 that is on the level of Repro would be interesting.

Yup, try turning off the internal effects in Diva (wish it had a lockable engagement button for them like Repro) and see what you think of the openness of the sound dry or using your external favorites. They are ancient now and really hold the sound back / do strange things to the top-end.

I think the effects in Repro are just another excellent aspect of it in comparison, and in general for built-in, and just moving those into a Diva-2 would be a win for most of the presets.

Had my fair share of problems with Diva, especially on old i7 Macbooks.

Then, Apple Silicon and Plugmon MONA happened and now it's not longer dead megabytes, but one of my most used plugins.

My guess is that the same people saying Diva sounds "dated" and "inferior to newer, better emulation options" and "not analog" would frequently / primarily not be able to tell it apart in blind A/B tests in which Diva was pitted against hardware and newer soft-synths.

That was the result of the old Oberheim patch test, and there's no reason to think it would be any different today -- our ears are just a bit older :P
