Last time I saw them the singer nearly broke my neck when he jumped off stage in the clear balloon thing and bounced off my head

Same goes for the Faces - Rod was just the singer.
I'd like to make the same point, more generally. "So and so" and their backing band is a recording industry move. Many of these listed are bands, period. They mostly only became "backing" bands when some ahole at their label decided to try and separate them a bit as they become a. cheaper b. easier to control
They did it to Iggy and the Stooges and tried to do it to many other bands such as when they tried to make Mick Jaguar (sorry, old joke) a solo artist. Or they (the record corpse) at least try to fire the actual band like they did with Heart and on a much smaller level The Nina Hagen Band. Keef called it "lead vocalitis." It's much easier to make a pop star out of a solo vocalist when they don't have a band.
Carry on...

Too bad Drozd is out.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

Same with Diana Ross & The Supremes - that was on later recordings, much to the anger of the other members.CrystalWizard wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 12:32 amI'd like to make the same point, more generally.Bunny_boy wrote: Fri Jan 23, 2026 4:29 am Ouch to making T-Rex Marc Bolan's backing band. Checking my stuff on Wikipedia, it appears there there was quite a bit of this renaming at the time:
In early 1967, the name of the act was officially changed briefly to "the Supremes with Diana Ross" before changing again to "Diana Ross & the Supremes" by mid-summer.[11] The Miracles had become "Smokey Robinson & the Miracles" two years prior. The fall of 1967 saw Martha & the Vandellas become "Martha Reeves & the Vandellas".[42] Having learned that Ross would receive top billing, David Ruffin lobbied, unsuccessfully, to have the Temptations renamed as "David Ruffin & the Temptations",[43] although Gordy maintained that because they would be providing two acts, a lead singer and a group, Motown could demand more money for live bookings.

That would be this:

for anyone interested some history of Motown. I had visited once before, it's a fascinating, deep, well researched look into how Motown operated, and as mentioned, it shows the record company impetus for dividing bands up. A great but sad read.
The more i learn about Berry Gordy the less i like him, he destroyed peoples lives for a buck. Checks out-"recording Industry."

The Velvet Underground & Nico is the debut studio album by the American rock band the Velvet Underground and the German singer Nico, released by Verve Records in March 1967. The album was recorded in 1966 on Ludlow Street, New York while the band were featured on Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable tour. Warhol, who designed the album's record sleeve, served as co-producer alongside Tom Wilson.
The Velvet Underground & Nico features elements of avant-garde music incorporated into brash, minimal and groove-driven rock music. Lead singer and songwriter Lou Reed delivers explicit lyrics spanning themes of drug abuse, prostitution, sadomasochism and urban life. Due to its abrasive, unconventional sound and controversial lyrical content, the album underperformed commercially and polarized critics upon release. Various record stores banned the album, many radio stations refused to play it, and magazines refused to carry advertisements for it.
In the following decades, The Velvet Underground & Nico received widespread critical acclaim, being regarded as ahead of its time, and was included on numerous all-time best album lists. The Observer placed it at No. 1 in their list of the "50 Albums That Changed Music" and Pitchfork ranked it as the best album of the 1960s.

Yeah, it's the name of the record, not the band.thecontrolcentre wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 1:28 am https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Velve ... d_%26_Nico
The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground. She only sings lead on three of the songs.
Plus that article is wrong. Either White Light / White Heat, A Love Supreme, or Ascension is the best album of the 60s
