Record multiple MIDI tracks in Waveform pro13

Trying to record several MIDI tracks from an external sequencer into Waveform13Pro simultaneously. Can't seem to be able to "Arm" multiple MIDI tracks in the Waveform Pro13 program to record, all at once.
When I select Track 1 for example, and designated it as a MIDI channel, then select Track 2 and try to designate it as a MIDI channel, Track one turns off and does not allow me to use it as MIDI channel or record.
Suggestions?

Someone posted a very similar question quite recently.

Yes, that was me. I'm a newbie to the form, so upon the recommendation from my other post, I reposted the topic on the Tracktion forum.
Selecting multiple MIDI tracks for simultaneous recording is still a problem.
Thanks
Mark

Both do appear to be in the Tracktion forum.M-J-S wrote: Thu Nov 14, 2024 5:06 am Yes, that was me. I'm a newbie to the form, so upon the recommendation from my other post, I reposted the topic on the Tracktion forum.

Did the suggestion in the other one not do the trick?

A moderator was kind enough to move the original post here as well.

If you simply record from the sequencer into Waveform, do you get all the MIDI events coming in, but just as a big jumble of all instruments lumped together? If so, then the filtering into individual channels which then go to different tracks as I had indicated in another post here should work.
Midi Monitor by "Insert Piz Here" or equivalent would normally let you see what is going on, but Waveform actually records clips with all MIDI events, but strips out the MIDI channel; and oddly enough if you WANT to send it back to a real MIDI device will default to channel 1 and you have to set that to the desired output channel yourself. (At least that is the way it seems to behave). Filtering on input (i.e. at the Input device, be it the only or a logical "virtual" interface) by allowing only the desired channel works well.

The problem is that I am not able to "arm" several MIDI tracks at the same time for recording. I am only able to "arm" two MIDI tracks, and I can isolate the specific channels of MIDI that I want, "MIDI channel 1", MIDI channel 4", etc. But I can only record two channels at a time. In a project that has multiple channels that seems very cumbersome.

You should be able to define additional virtual inputs in Settings and put those on different channels.

Yeah, if you really want to do this "a lot", then define (up to 16) virtual MIDI devices, and for each one give it a name that's useful to you (or just use MyMidi1, MyMidi2, etc); and include the filters in place for that specific channel only; and tied to the actual input device you're getting multi-channel midi from.
That way you can avoid the setting up of the filter each time (which isn't that cumbersome anyway, but should be a faster workflow). I normally do this with just 2 in mind, one for keys on all BUT 10, and one for drum pads as channel 10. So if playing keys and I want to test a rhythm, I simply tap the pads to get drums instead of (say) piano.
Now, it IS entertaining when I accidentally assign my drum virtual to a piano track, and randomly hit the pads B-)

Perhaps a daft question, but could I do the same in T12 Free? My Mac Mini is too old to run T13.

I believe that 12 has the similar functionality. Just create a new virtual input and put whatever MIDI filtering you want on it. (I just loaded 12, although not the free version), and "create virtual MIDI" is there under MIDI devices in settings.

OK thanks, I'll give that a go. My ultimate goal is having the Torso T-1 running 3-4 bass, melody and harmony VST tracks with one for drums.

I was struggling with this yesterday. The best solution I found was to create virtual midi interfaces for each single channel I need to use. For each virtual interface click Select midi inputs, disable all channels and then enable the one you want. In addition, click Apply Channel and select the same channel here.
So, if you arm a track with the actual midi device, it will "reserve" all channels, and it seems that's why Tracktion won't let you arm other tracks. But if you arm a track to listen to a virtual midi interface, you can use other virtual interfaces for other tracks.
This feels like programming work that should have been already implemented, but on the other hand this is quite elegant and generic.
