I have used both apps for years. I recently downloaded the latest version of Tracktion and am very pleased with the program!

I do all of my tracking with audio files and decided to do a quick comparison between Audition, Vegas, and Tracktion. I found that Tracktion records audio in the same format as Audition, (i.e., IEEE Float {0.24 float type 3}). The audio quality is superb! Noise floor when using the Delta 1010 audio card is lowest when tracking with Tracktion.

The version I'm using is Tracktion v.1.6.0.1. I'm VERY impressed!

Yes, I'll agree, the audio quality of Tracktion is excellent, but as you continue to use it you find that is only the tip of the iceberg.....There are so many ways that Tracktion make recording, mixing and mastering very fast and very efficient.

Is it perfect, no, but for me, it's the closest I've seen yet.

i personally wouldnt dump audition. It's a great program and you can use it hand in hand for mixing down and for editing wavs within tracktion.

the audio-quality is the same for all (32bit-)sequencers...

Yes, but I found that Vegas added some noise to the audio file that both Audition and Tracktion didn't.

FWIW, I'd love to have Audition in addition to Tracktion, but I can't justify the expense. Were money not an object, I'd have it for sure.

Yeah but I mean if you already own it, and used it for all multitracking before, why not? :)

Lunch Money,

Why do you want Audition so much? It's a great editor, but can't you get by with Tracktion?

Post

Yep, I've gotten by just fine. But there are some things like cleaning up unwanted noise that would've been a lot nicer and easier with Audition. Also, if my understanding is correct, the modules that come with it are pretty nice, too, and would come in handy for adding polish to a final mix.

For straight-up recording, I'd have no need for Audition. But for specialty tasks, preparing samples, or authoring a CD, it'd be nice to have instead of the mixed bag of freeware that I'm currently using.

exactly my point. I also trust audition's mixing engine more than tracktion, seems tracktion has more oompf, whereas audition is more transparent

I hear you. No argument here.

I would keep at least audition w/ T :)

rpc9943,

I have kept both Audition and Vegas on my system for various reasons. What I mean by being EX is that I will be doing 100% of my tracking/production/mixing in Tracktion because I believe it has everything I need to do a project from start to finish. It does not mean that I will uninstall Audition and Vegas.

Also, I have not checked the transparency of the mix engines of both Tracktion and Audition. I will do this in the upcoming week. However, I believe the two will be the same. I will post back tomorrow with my results.

I have noticed some interesting things with audio/seq sound quality.

Upon various listening equipment I have listend to the same wav files on Tracktion, Live 4, Audition, Cubase SX and Logic 7 over a period of time. Onmy own personal listening and a few others, we had these conclusions:

Live 4 has an almost mettalic sound to it.
Audition has a fairly transparent sound, with a slightly raised mid-high range.
Logic has a warmer, rounder more hushed sound.
cubase SX is more like Logic, but a tad less.
Tracktion 1.6 also seems to have a slightly clangy sound to it, more like Live 4.

Call us crazy, but this is what we got. I really liked the sound of SX and Logic. Im sure they use high quality dithering, etc.
