Agreed!
I'll pop it up the stack.
Agreed!
I haven't seen one do this actually, do you know one?EvilDragon wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 2:06 pm Even better is using a host which does that automatically![]()
It doesn't really work like that unfortunatelyStarbright wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 2:05 pm "You may want to use a limiter on the SC bus, in case there is a DSP error. Similarly exhibit caution with in-ear
headphones. We think our DSP is bounded, but bugs happen." - from the github site of Shortcicuit XT
I think what would be definetely cool for Shortcircuit XT and Surge XT (or realy any vst) would be an automatic limiter. That would save so much head ache sometimes...

Thanks, but that's not what I'm looking for. What I would love to have, in any daw I use, would be automatic brickwall limitng. So I don't even have to risk getting my ear blown out or dealing with digital distortion by not properly leveled out vst or sample library (mainly drums).
Yeah but that one just mutes it when it gets too loud (I have used Reaper for almost 8 years by now - though I prefer Logic a little more)Surgo wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 2:16 pmIt doesn't really work like that unfortunatelyStarbright wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 2:05 pm "You may want to use a limiter on the SC bus, in case there is a DSP error. The reason for the external limiter on the bus is if there happens to be a bug in the plugin, you can't really trust that limit. So during a beta period, it's a smart move to also have an external, known-working solution.

thanksbaconpaul wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 2:13 pmSurge has an adjustable hardclip at the end of chain. Shortcircuit right now does not.Starbright wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 2:05 pm "You may want to use a limiter on the SC bus, in case there is a DSP error. Similarly exhibit caution with in-ear

But even in that cases, the advice stands.A spike into an 18db threshold handclip is still bad for those in ear headphones. And also, what if we get our auto-limiter wrong!
Of course you can do what you see fit, but when i am doing dsp dev i do my first play with my in ear headphones around my neck not on my ears!

Next install will change multi-file drop to way more useful attached behavior. Build should be up in an hour or so.
We were just discussing it in discord. Right now I chose to set the root key to the middle of each synthetically created range when dropping multi.ere2learn wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 4:02 pm Thats what I was asking about ,ty
How is the root key set when multiple samples are dropped like that
Hey, any RMS limiter set to -9dB in your preload song would do the job. Maybe -6dB if you're on loudness war.Starbright wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 2:43 pmThanks, but that's not what I'm looking for.
